I think I'm going to break this lonely, unused section of the forum in and make the first post.  Here goes...... Well, ladys and gents, I shot my first CAS event EVER last Friday night.    I went out to the Rio Salado Rifle Range, just east of Phoenix, Az and hooked up with The Rio Salado CAS Society.  They were setting up for the monthly Saturday match and was going to have a mini-match after set-up.  I looked up Mr. Ken Furr (aka Arizona Lightning Jack) who is the division manager for the club, introduced myself and asked him if I could hang around and watch.  He asked me If I wanted to register and shoot.  I told him I have no western era firearms yet, wherein he reached in the trunk of his car and pulled out a double holster set up with two 3rd generation colt saa's and, without a blink of the eye, said "strap these on".  My jaw almost dropped.  This man didn't know me from Adam and he's handing me $2000 worth of guns to use!  Well, as you can imagine, I said something like "O.K." and went about it.  Ken shared his Marlin Century rifle (44-40 I think) and his double 12 with me thru 4 stages.  Shakey as a frog on the freeway at first, but I cleared stage four with no misses. We won't talk about  my time.  Between runnin the show, doing his own shooting and looking after me, I don't think I saw Ken move at less then a trot all evening.
I want to thank Ken Furr and all the other folks of the Reo Salado Cowboys for givin this  greenhorn the warmest welcome imaginable and a truely enjoyable evening.

Welcome to the world of CAS!

My first experience was similar.  The husband and I went to a Deseret Historical Shootist Society match.  I didn't want to handle other guns because I KNEW the value of them.  They convinced me it was ok.  Did they create a MONSTER.

For a while I was the only woman there until TWO GUN DANA showed up.  She ran up to me and gave me a hug.  "Another woman!"

I never forgot that and have had a ball ever since.

I still see Two Gun Dana and talk to her on occassion.  She's a wonderful woman.

I've met a lot of people in this sport who are good to ride the trail with.

Good idea.  Did you get a chance to shoot this weekend?

Nope, we had our monthly work day.
Put out some crushed granite, to keep us from taking an acre of dirt home whenever we shot with a little wet ground.

Some folks shot, I was too tuckered.
Adios,

The whole gang up at Rio Salado is great! Just about every time I shoot up there, I gain a little of someone else's experiance. And Ken is one of the best. He is very dedicated to the sport, and always ready to help out a pard at the drop of a hat.
Even though I do not get to shoot as often as I would like, I am very pleased to call Rio Salado my home range! Some very good pards up there!

Howdy Rawhide...I'm slowly getting my gear together.  Got a rifle and one pistola and the second one is in lay-away.  Will pick up the scattergun last, thinkin a Baikal.  Got a good start on my leathers to.  You haven't seen the last of Will Pluggum.  As Gen. McCarthur said  .."I shall return"! Hope to see you out the range some time.

Good choice with the Baikel. I have been shooting one for over four years now, and it has never given me a glitch. I have the cockers/hammers one now, but started with a hammerless. Both SGs were very good. When EAA came out with the one with real hammers, I was tempted to trade it for one, but decided to keep what I have. Got attached to it. Gonna try to make the May shoot, maybe I'll see ya up there.
