I'm sure someone on here will be able to tell you a good place to get one.  my post is to warn you of the dnagers of a whip, my granddad went to Mexico to see a Bull fight in the late 50's he brought me home a 10' bull whip, now tht thing would put whelps on you in a heartbeat, trying to learn how to use it was a painful experience.

now the one you get may be different than a bull whip, but just in case just remember where that tip is going.

and to pop it's moving at the speed of sound.
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

Thanks for the advice Ozark.  I to have raised a few welts on my self playing with a bull whip.  It'll be more for show then use till I get some experience with it.

Bristow, was going through the posts in the shop, figured I had a suggestion for you(and anyone else that wants info on whips).

One of the best sites for information on whips, whipmaking, and how to use whips is:

www.indygear.com

This is a costuming site for the Indiana Jones movies(they went through and identified the makers of all the costume pieces, including the whip made by David Morgan), plus there is several real good whipmakers on the site that make bull-, stock-, and blacksnake whips.  Just go to the forum section at the main page, or just type in "Club Obi-Wan" in a search engine.

Hope this helps(sorry for taking so long, just found your post today.).

Bristow, Glad the information helps.

If anyone wants to get real ambitious, and make their own whip,
get the book:  How to make whips by Ron Edwards.  Real good book, teaches how to make all types of whips from bull- to long handled stock whips.  It's written by the head of Austrailian Whipmakers and Plaiters association.  I got my copy through Border's bookstore.

On that indygear site:  Look under the whip forum and find a gentleman by the name of Adam Winrich(don't have my web addresses with me, I'll post it later though).  He came up with the concept of the Indy on a Budget whip-a four plait cowhide whip that sells for around $100.00 dollars but he also does custom whips in cow and kangaroo hide.  I have talked to him about making a cowhide snakewhip for my own outfit and he said he could make me one for about the same price.

You can also try the website for Western Stage props, a company run by Mark Allen.  They sell whips, books(including the Ron Edwards book I mentioned), videos, plus they also sell gunspinning supplies, lariats, throwing knives, just about anything a cowboy could want.  They also run a group called Wild West Arts Club that is for ones who like to dabble in the cowboy arts(imagine SASS meets Bill Cody).

Hope this helps some more.
