So, tell me about these bad boyz.
Uberti 47 Walker and the 48 Dragoons

Does anyone shoot these?
How much powder to they hold??
What size balls 454 or maybe 457.
I got a warthog wild hair.

SIR WILLIAM

I don't like the 47 Walkers.  The 3rd model Dragoon is a pretty good shooter.  They are easier and more comfortable to shoot.  I have not had any trouble with them.  I shop at www.dixiegunworks.com  I suggest you buy their catalogue first.  There is one of the best FAQ sources on BP inside it.

Thanks for the reply.
Why don't you like the Walker.

Why don't you like the Walker.

Perhaps that loading lever that has a tendancy to go flopping around when the gun is fired with heavy, full house, charges?

...work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like you do when nobody is watching..

Big Hext Finnigan

Yeah.. I don't like that lever dropping down, either.
I think the Dragoons have better balance and are still a big chunk o' steel.  And didn't "baby sister" have a Dragoon in True Grit?

Adios,

Adios,
I had Mr. Google search for a good picture of her horse pistol but he couldn't find one. I was either a Walker or a Dragoon as I remember.

Could'a been a Walker, but I seem to remember the word Dragoon used.  And the Duke musta known exactly what the gun was, wouldn't he?!  He can do NO wrong!  ;D

Silver Creek Slim

I think both were referred to as Dragoons.
We need St. George or another historian to chime in.

Pukin Dog

I have one of each.  Love to shoot the combo at local matches (wouldn't do it at a long weekend though, too much steel to carry for 2 days!)

The Walker is a heavy unweildy behemoth of a pistol.  Me thinks there is a reason they only made 1100 of them and redesigned them into the Dragoon a year later.  The balance on them is terrible, and as stated previously the loading arm has a tendancy to drop on heavier loads.  I was able to dremel a slight ledge on the catch and this pretty much took care of that problem.

The Dragoon is much better balanced, has a locking loading lever and is considerably shorter.  It is still one hellava big revolver though.  If I could only have one, I'd get the Dragoon.  But I got em both and love each one in its own way.

Besides, if a Walker was good enough for Gus and Josie, it's good enough for me! ;D

I have a Walker, and it shoots pretty good, but like others have said, it doesn't really balance all that well.  And toting it around on a belt is a real chore.  Not an everyday pistola for me.
The Dragoon in True Grit was a Walker as well.  I know this from numerous close gun inspections (pause, rew., etc.)  Duke called it a "Dragoon" and if he called it that, it's good enough for me.  ;)
