"Originally called Nutmeal, peanut butter has only been around for 100 years. But, it's a staple in 85% of American homes, and we eat about 3 pounds of peanut butter per person each year ... that's a total of 700 million pounds - enough to coat the floor of the Grand Canyon! Children and women prefer creamy; men like the crunchy stuff.

If you have Arachibutyrophobia? You're afraid of the peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth!"

Well said, Tom.  :D

I like peanut butter (crunchy, since I'm a guy) as long as it isn't made with sugar like the more common brands. Just peanuts and salt. Yep. ;) One of my favorite sandwiches is peanut butter and mayo on seed bread. ;D

Forced me to go slather up a couple of slices of wheat bread for a snack.  Just to honor the day! ;D ;D

I had peanut butter (creamy) and some homemade plum jelly on homemade bread (is there any other kind) 'bout midnite, didn't even know about the holiday, got the mail and no one even sent me a card. ;D ;D

I prefer the creamy myself. There's a place over in the next county called Smucker's, anybody heard of it? They did make an all natural peanut butter, but it wasn't very easy to spread, guess that commercial processed stuff spoiled me. Had a good flavor to it, not sure if it's still available or not. On some potato bread with a little butter and grape jelly,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......Buck 8) ::) ;) ;D
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

You folks are makin' me hongry!  My peanut butter is at work in my desk drawer.  Sadly I don't have any here... what am I going to do???  :'(

I guess I'll have to have some potted meat.  Just not the same, though.

Sure!  They make good quilts!  http://www.amishnews.com/Shopping/smuckersquilts.htm  Del's are better though  ;D ;D

Smucker's (the jam company) was in legal "jam" last year as they were trying to prove they invented the PB&J! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7408857/

Hmmm, hadn't heard that one over this way, Sod Buster. Would've figured it would have made local news. Not a peep.
My wife used to do security work there many moons ago.......Buck 8) ::) ;)

You all went and got my "hongree" up in a roar, and I can't eat anything since last night until tomorra afternoon.  DANG!!

I really like the taste of "natcheral" "goober butter", but it is a bit rough to spread, unless you warm it up a bit; I usually take a spoon and put what I want in a bowl, and nuke it for a few seconds, and it works pretty good.  Of course, if I'd stir the stuff and keep turning the jar like you're s'posed to, it'd be too runny, and not layer up on the bread like I like it.  ::)

And for pure entertainment value, put some peanut butter on a slice of bread then stick it to the roof of your dog's mouth.

The dogs love it and beg for more while you get a good laugh over the faces they make.

Never tired of that one,

:D

Annie, that is not only entertainment its a good way to keep your dogs busy for awhile.  It works well with my Great Danes and keeps them from sticking their nose into somebody's plate. (Yes there are a few disadvantages to having dogs that can see and reach over the top of the table.)  ;D

Peanut butter on vanilla ice cream, peanut butter & banana sandwich, peanut butter & pickle sandwich, peanut butter sandwich with chocolate chips sprinkled on, peanut butter & bologna.....  being on a diet sure is hell. ;)  At least I can talk about it and not gain any weight! ;D

Steel Horse Bailey

I used to have a certain driver who was on my tank crew in Germermany.  He knew all the cooks and supply guys and after a field meal was finished, the cooks would give my driver the leftover bread, packets of peanut butter and packets of jelly.  We drove on the Autobahn to get from place to place.  When we'd take a short rest stop, my driver would switch places with my loader or gunner.  Since I was the Tank Commander, I was standing half in and half out of the tank to be able to see as well as possible.  Then there'd be a tug on my pants leg:  I'd just reach down with one hand and he'd put a PB&J sandwich in my hand.  We'd mosey on down the road listening to music (I wired a tape player into the intercom) and chowin down on PB&Js.  He'd make one for me, one for the loader or gunner who was driving, and then himself.  Then he'd start again until he ran out of fixins.

A pleasant memory ...

Hey Folks, try this one on fer size. It may sound weird, but it's great ;D. Peanut butter and pickled beets on whole wheat. For real! Also peanuts are not nuts, they're tubers on the roots of a legume.
