Be thankful.  I just got the wrapper!  Somebody somewhere must have sure liked that cover.

I just hope he joins NCOWS and gets his own copy of the "Shootist" so I can get mine.

Will Ketchum

Scout, we will have to make sure Lone Gunman brings a copy ith him to the convention so he can deliver it personally to you.

Since Buchannan got two, maybe one is US Scout's. ----- WOW, did Buchannan already give one to US Scout?

Mine came today!!!! Nice job George.   Interesting article Marlan on revolver barrel length.  We will have to discuss it at the convention.  He also has one about the first Originals match. And of course Del had a great column on cooking.  I saw the article by Lars but haven't read it yet.   And last but not least was Book's article on converting thrift shop vests to period correct ones.

Speaking of Marlan's article, if you turn to page 52 of the Time Life Books "The Gunfighters" Jesse James has what it appears to be a 4 3/4 inch Colt in his holster...

Wymore,

Sorry, but that picture has already been proven to 'not be' Jesse James & gang.  Jesse died in 1881 but the guy next to the supposed Jesse James is holding a Win 1886.

Just not possible or he did not really die as stated/claimed.

This was noticed by me several year ago and I did see a write up somewhere using the same premise but they also had the real name.  Sorry I do not.

Thanks Black River Smith, I've seen that photograph used many times and this is the first time I've heard it was disproven, learn something new every day.... ;D

I was in St Joseph MO yesterday and they say Jesse is still alive....

BTW, the Nov/Dec cover picture was taken by John Hoker, I've posted a copy in the BROW forum...

George, I ran into Jesse the other day.  He was having lunch with Billy Bonney, John Dillenger and Elvis.  I was surprised that Elvis would keep such company.

Ol Gabe

OK, Pards & Pardettes,
1. My copy arrived Thursday afternoon in the regular USPS run and I'm on pins and needles for the Jan-Feb issue now!
2. WOW! I don't know what difference the cover paper makes, but it was in pristine condition, i.e., no curls on the edges, no tape untaped, no dirt on the outer cover. Imagine my awe! I even saved the outer cover for use in artwork and etc. as it was in 'almost new' condition.
3. John Hoker, aka 'Beartooth Billy', the feller that shot the pic on the cover and harvested the Buff with his own BPCR Rifle as well as wrote about it in a recent THE SHOOTIST issue, is from eastern Iowa, and is truly an NCOWS Pard to ride the river with! I had the extreme pleasure of painting him a sign a couple of years ago, he walks the walk and talks the talk in a lingo we can appreciate and he pulls no punches giving it to you straight as a fellow Shooter, he won't steer you wrong!
Last year at one of the CVR Buffalo Shoot events, he handed me 4 reloads and said "...here, try these in your Pedersoli, they work really great in mine and I think you'll see a BIG difference!" Welll, Boy Howdy! I did, and I did! He was right and we had some great times talking about reloads and 45-70 hunting, etc. If you ever get a chance to meet and jaw a bit with this quiet giant, don't hesitate, he has hunted the Continent and knows whereof he speaks! No doubt he'll be at the Convention, if you need, stop by my table and I'll happily point him out unless he's setting next to me.
Best regards and good shooting!

Folks,

A former postal worker called me to task for implying that one of their own would stoop so low as to violate Federal law by deliberately stealing my copy of the "Shootist."

I was just having a little joke and meant no harm, but do apologize to any postal workers if they didn't see the humor in my posting.  Though I was serious about any of them who read my magazine might become encouraged to join NCOWS!

Besides, George is sending me a new copy to replace the one that went astray, so all is right with the world - or will be when it arrives.

Read Marlans' article this evening.

Wymore, I see where your comment came from now.  It may appear that the picture (truly dating after 1886) does support Marlans' general interpretations/observations of barrel size (2 short out of 3 guys, other 2 not visible).
