Just wondering if 45 Schofield brass will work in the cylinders of the 1890's?
Reason being I have bullets (Lyman 452424) that are just a touch too long, and I really want to try them, but don't want the trouble of trimming down regular 45 Colt brass and keeping them separate from the rest.

If you have a handful of .44-40 cases handy you could try them in the chambers, as .45 Schofield and .44-40 have similar rim diameters.

I know .45 Schofield work in .45 Colt calibre Open-Tops and Peacemakers.
Have not tried them in Remington 1875 or 1890 cylinders, but unless the center ratchet is unusually large they should fit.

I got lots of 44-40 brass, I'll give that a try. Thanks for the tip.

 :)  Hey King  ;)

Just as an aside.  If you happen to also be shooting a Toggle Link Rifle (Uberti, Or . .) in 45 Colt, 44-40 Brass makes absolutely wonderful 45 Colt Brass.  Run the 44-40 brass thru your 45 Colt dies (carefully) then load .45 Bullets.  The resulting cartridge will look real funny until you fire-form it.  The 44-40 Neck as a 45 will expand to seal most 45 Chambers, eliminating Blow-By.

Would also cud down to make dandy 45 Government but you would probably lose the neck expansion, but in Hand Guns sealing against Blow-By is much less of an issue.

44-40 brass fit's just fine in the Remington 90's 45 Colt cylinders. Now to find some Schofield Brass!

Yea, but I don't want 500, 50 will do to start, to see if what I want works.

Abilene

MidwayUSA has it in stock, $30/100.  Maybe see what else they have that you want/need to combine shipping?

Now, I have some A-Merc brass that I would send you for free, but don't know if there are 50, not sure how many, and I probably won't be back to where it is located for a week or two.  I've used it okay but some of the flash holes are not centered  :(  and it would occasionally push the decap pin up in my Lee sizing die.  I finally got a Lee universal decapping die which worked better, but then I bought some Starline so I don't use these.

Or somebody else might have some excess to their needs as well.  Just let me know.
