I have a Spencer rifle in a 3 band, that was converted by the Springfield Arsenal to 56-46. This cartridge was designed by Springfield in 1863. There are records of building and trying this cartridge in carbines, but I can't find any for long guns.
Is there a place that has the Spencer records. I was hoping to find that there was a bit that said we sent so many rifles or actions to Springfield. And my serial number was in the batch. It would be a starting place anyway.

Thanks

I understand that the Cody Center has what's left of the Spencer records. Spencer sold out to Fogerty, who in turn were bought by Winchester. Cody got what records they have from Winchester. Rumor has it that the records are in complete disarray. You might try contacting Roy Marcot through the Remington Society. He knows what's there.
