Not finding data, yet this powder has a very similar burn rate to IMR 4227, which is often recommended for the good old .44 WCF. Anyone have a trustworthy data source? This would be for use in an Uberti 1873, so I am not looking to hotrod it.

Have you checked accurate load data. I believe you can also find some in the Lyman manuals, and load data.com
5744 works ok in the 44 but I like bludot better

Checking out "Load Data" there isn't very much (3) for 5744 in 44-40. You might be happier with Reloader 7 or IMR4198. Currently I'm using 8 grains of Green Dot behind 240 grain WFN.

Thanks fellas. Savvy Jack has sung the praises of Re 7 in the .44 WCF, but it is a mighty scarce article in this section.

:) Late to the party ;)

Dunno myself.  I'm no help at all.  I won a jug of 5744 at a match some time back and it's just sitting on a shelf.  Have no clue what to do with it.  Have been greatly tempted to just make fertilizer . . . . .

Ahhhhhhh......!!!! Coffin surely you jest!!!!!!! It's a great powder for reloading MILSPEC rifles using cast bullets, one of my go to powders for such endeavors. Gotta be someone who'd buy or trade for a powder you can use. Ifin I were closer to ya I'd be barginnin' with ya.

5744 is good stuff. I have used it quite successfully with cast in the .416 Rigby, the.45-70 and even the .577 Snider. Hodgdon's burn rate chart shows IMR 4227 at 69, 5744 at 71, Re 7 at 77 and the 4198s at 79/80.
