read an article on the new Uberti 38 cal conversion by Jeff John and he talked about his newly converted Pietta converted to 44 cal via type 1 or thin plate in nickle and man it looked fantastic by an unknown gunsmith...does anyone know the smith's name? the Uberti 38 looks like the former 45 cal, not much different though....

i saw it in the March Edition of the American Rifleman on page 6, AR online, review: Cimarron 1858 Remington Navy Conversion...go to americanrifleman.org/cimarron1858 and go from there..you can view the thin plate at Jeff John's website also...

Major 2

I believe the Thin Plate shown was actually the work of R.L. Millington.
He has not been active in about a decade.
I recall he ceased orders to build his home and never to my knowledge resumed.
when planets align...do the deal !

Walt Kirst also made a few things plate conversions, I have one that is in 45colt (5 shot) and is exceptionally accurate! The actual Remington Navy conversions had the recoil shields flattened, ....the Uberti version imported by Cimarron, is just the 45 version in 38....goofy looking thick conversion ring.....this could have been neat, but looks "off" when compared to the thin plate gun
