Gentlemen, Will Colt hard-rubber type eagle grips fit a Pietta Great Western II?  I really like that look, but I'd like to know if grips made for a Colt will fit.  (Yes, I'd expect to do some minor fitting, but need to know if they're close enough to ALLOW fitting.)

Hi Niederlander, well okay I went to check.  I tried this on a Cimarron Pietta Frontier which should be the same as the GWII.  3rd Gen hard rubber eagle grips fit very well, a tiny bit proud of the grip frame so could easily be fitted.  And then I have a grip set with just the rampant colt and no eagle which was sold to me as a 2nd Gen Colt grip but I have my doubts.  It is not marked Colt on the inside and it did not at all fit the only 2nd Gen gun that I have, a 1971 NRA Centennial.  However, that grip does fit the Pietta almost perfectly.  Obviously for any of these a hole needs to be drilled in the front strap for a locator pin.

Great!  Thank you!  Looks as if I need to look for a 3rd Generation set of grips.  (By the way, they'll go on the Great Western II I converted from .357 to .44 Special.)
