Uberti Stock Swap

I picked up a beautiful Uberti Sporting rifle for a very good deal. However, I do not fancy the pistol grip stock and especially the checkering. Is it possible to swap the pistol grip stock for a standard straight stock? Am I correct in my thinking that it would be a simple swap of stock and lower tang?

I think the tang on the sporting rifle is curved, the tang on the carbine or regular rifle is straight, therefor not interchangeable. I could be wrong.

Correct-a-mundo.  It would be necessary to swap both the Butt Stock AND the Lower Tang and the LEVER.  The rest of the internals are same same.

King:  Re-read the OP.  Said he also thought would need to change the lower tang.

Would be a bit pricy, but if one really really hates the Pistol Grip > > > > > > >

You cannot buy the lower tang.  That is the serialized part of the gun.  The only way (besides bending the tang and chancing ruining the gun for good) would be to find somebody with a straight stock that wanted pistol grip and swap all the parts.  That changes the s/n but I don't see that making a difference unless you live some place that has every gun on a permit.

I was under the impression that the receiver and tang were all one piece, had to go look at mine. Low and behold, the bottom tang is a separate piece. Guess what happens when one assumes....

I have 5 73s (& a 66), only 1 is pistol grip and I can't tell the difference when the beeper goes off  :)
I don't like checkering on pistols but my hand isn't even touching the pistol grip while levering. And checkering on the forend can help on pulling to the shoulder. If you're using it for non-CAS, then nevermind ;D Sell and buy what you want.

 :) How Strange ;)

After a couple of decades working on CAS guns and building several piles of competition toggle Link Uberti rifles, it never entered my feeble mind, the serial number is on the Lower Tang.  Never had occasion to even consider changing one.  Not to mention, they (tangs) don't break.  Well, unless a train runs over them.  Nothing left to repair.

What a strange "Gotcha". Thanks Abilene.
