Hi all, quick question. Is 30-30 ammo allowed in main matches? Looking at the approved list, the 1894 is allowed, but as listed in the by-laws, the cartridge was never developed as a black powder. i did a search in thecas city archives and saw mention of damaging targets, and talk of a Historically documented reduced power hunting round, but all information is over 10 years old. I was curious to the current standing on 30-wcf. There has been  a plethora of '94s pop up for sale in my area, which made me curious as to their viability.

Thanks

Howdy Chris.  If you look in the Tally Book on the NCOWS website, you will see in the description of each shooting class the words "pistol caliber rifle."  So no, the 30-30 is not legal for main match.

thank you,Abilene. That is what I suspected, I just wanted to confirm. I had looked through the approved/ unapproved list and the bylaws. I will look at the tally book now for some other questions

Although the 1894 is an approved rifle, it is approved only in rifle caliber cartridges ie 30-30, 32-40 etc for long range.  The 1894 is not approved in pistol caliber cartridges.

Thank you for the clarification, Tacosa Joe. I am still trying to get all the rules and lingo straight.

While the 1894 is approved for long range, the 30/30 is not and it was not a black powder cartridge. The other listed in Joe's post were released as black powder cartridges.
