Major 2

US Navy 1911 Gun locker storage rack. The first photo is my replica.
The second two photos are originals and marked
                                                    Pistol Rack
45 Cal. Colt Auto Pistol [/b
                                                  Model 1911-A1
                                                  Ord. Dr. No. 42807
                                                  Mfg.at Navy Yard Phil. Pa.

I had stamp made to duplicate the markings.
I thought it was very cool wall hanger, for my Military theme Reloading room.

The Plywood backing board is CNC cut (when I had the shop before retiring)
At that time, I cut out two.

I have decided to complete a second rack.... simple pattern.
If interested I post the replica when it complete.

That's very interesting! This is outside my normal area of study, but I've never seen a storage rack like that. The carry handle is intriguing; would that be to move it into and out of a weapon storage locker for issue and turn-in? Your replica is very close and I'd like to see your next one when it's done. Thanks for adding to my knowledge!

They were for shipboard in the gun lock, originals actually held 6 - 1911's, 3 on each side and were then sled in locked cabinet.
The cabinet then accommodated 6 of these boards for 36 1911's
They are WW2 era and seem to demand several hundred dollars.
I've seen them offered & sell for $700 one was $900.

There is currently a replica (not mine) on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/166649478649 @   $300

Unable to afford, the real deal, I opted to replica mine as single side wall hanger.
The Guns are rather well detailed Airsoft.

Got it. Thanks again! (You should buy 3 Tisas pistols for your display.)  ;)

That's a fine pistol rack. I like the design. What thickness is the board itself?

Yours looks better than that replica for $300.

It's tempting to make one and I don't even have a use for one. LOL

Will... its  18mm A/BB Birch, it is what I use(d) to build displays for trade Shows.
It's not cheap, but I had access to plenty of off-cut remnants.

Griff, 3 Tisas pistols that'd be very cool, but I need a Go Fund Me account.

The new one will be dark like this original.
I'm making this one, to have a project to keep me out of the Bingo Hall  ::)

This project got me interested and I came across this discussion on the Colt Forum. I thought that it was interesting too. It shows a variation.

The earlier version is very cool too, with is 5-piece spline joinery construction.
The later 1911 WWII version used simple single plywood backing.
I have seen a shipboard locker box photo, while looking for the dimensions for my first replica.
But I don't recall where I saw it, I need to do some digging.

REALLY BIG AND HUGE "LIKE" BUTTON

That copy of the Navy Pistol board for 1911s is just the BIZZ!!!

That older example is mighty nice, too. Were the original locker boxes a trunk or a standing cabinet?

The only one I saw was a wall/bulkhead mounted cabinet.
I seem to remember it was on a destroyer.

As of today.... note the Navy stamp replicated.

The pouches are being trained after water shaping, they are still very slightly damp and will dry in place for 24 hours or so.

The leather is dyed and artificially age with an alcohol rubbing.

Those are pretty neat. Haven't every saw one of those.
