Hope you did have luck, with a presumed Spencer hunt.

Yes, with the Spencer.  The deer had other places to be apparently.......

I could not for the life of me figure out how to attach the picture via phone in the stand.

How much damage does a Spencer round do on the deer  .  .  . must be substantial. ::)  Two Flints

Less than my .577 P58 Enfield.  I basically keep in bow hunting range.  I still have the hat you sent me for my first deer a while ago.

Very cool Ibgreen,
did you see any deer yet. I think the Spencer is very big medicine for deer hunting( at least within 100 yards)
I carried one of Spencers quite a bit this past rifle deer season, didn't see a legal buck whilst I was carrying it, but did get lucky with the 1866 Winchester. In the words of Buffalo Bill Cody-- thats a pop gun compared to the Spencer...
 Good luck!

I have an engraved spencer as well.  The top scroll on the M1860 rifle says:  Capt. Joseph Blackburn.  Bottom says 5th Tenn. Cav.

That is awesome.. engraved with the name and unit, that is special... this one of mine is a 1865 Burnside, it is very much like the engraved Burnside Spencers detailed in Marcot's book. But no provenance, just very pretty, with a near perfect bore. ...
I've gotten a number of deer with my Spencers, but have yet to  recover a bullet. On one  buck it went in his left shoulder  and exited the right hip. Though none have been further than 80 yards...
