Just received my latest thumb buster, the "Bad Bob" Meldrum by Pietta/Cimarron.I love the look, nicely laser engraved and nickel finished. Roll marks are beautiful. Had a couple hiccups. First the hammer would only come to full cock half the time, slipping on the other three. I kept working the action and it eventually settled down and worked properly ( burrs ?). The trigger is crisp but a little heavy. Also the base pin is a bit overlong and has the two notches on the bottom. A bit of a pain to line up with the base pin screw (it's a black powder frame).
The screw is the big knurled job which I'm replacing with a flush to frame. Any suggestions on a better base pin ? Otherwise very pleased with the pistol. Will report on shooting soon.

Froogal

Don't quote me on this, but I think the base pin for a Uberti will interchange.

I'm quoting you on this  ;D  You are right.
Also, there should be a proper base pin screw somewhere in the box.

I love the look of that gun.  Reminds me of my cap guns as a kid.

:'(  Well I posted a real nice reply for MissouriJack, that the easy, cheap quick fix for the Two Position Cylinder Base Pin was to remove the last 3/16 and dress the end for smooth.  Also there was proper flush screw stuck somewhere in the box the gun came in,  And that Froogal was in fact correct, the Uberti Base Pin will fit nicely (if you can find one).

I just now found the carefully crafted post of this Morning went somewhere off in to the either and disappeared.  I do find that somewhat annoying.  Not to mention bothersome.

Anyway.  As in the above, here it is again although now it is mostly an echo not to mention firmly in second or third place.  However, if you read this far, IT'S TOO LATE, 'cause here ya are and you've read the same same same stuff about three times already.  But it's Wednesday and ya'all need sampin to day anyway (nanny nanny poo poo)

I couldn't find a screw in the box, but I ordered a couple from Cimarron that arrived yesterday. I'll install one when the Uberti base pin arrives. The pin is aluminum.

Abilene

Aluminum base pin?  Wow, who'da thunk?

The new pin fits great, not too long and no "two notch" issues. The flush to frame screws however, aren't compatible with the Pietta frame. I'm checking with Cimarron to see if they have any that are.

They must have sent you Uberti screws.  I know those don't match.

Yes. I ordered off the website. I'll keep the screws since they fit my Ubertis. I sent an email to customer service specifically asking for the proper screw. We shall see.

missourijack

No response from Cimarron. Guess I'll have to ask Alessandro Pietta to bring some screws with him next time he crosses the Pond !

Abilene

Pietta owns EMF; you could check with them.  In the past they did not carry a BP framed pistol but they now carry a "The Last Stand" model which is BP framed.

No joy with VTI. Still waiting for a response from Cimarron. I sent EMF a message just now.  We shall see.

missourijack

EMF came through !  I spoke to Charlie Hanson in Customer Service. They have the flush to frame screws in blue steel.  I ordered two. My pistol is nickel, but it's no big thing to sand / polish the screw down to bare metal. A little wax should stave off rust. Will report on developments.

missourijack

Well waddya know, Cimarron contacted me and by gum they have the screws in stock after all. I'll order a couple and report back.

So who was "Bad Bob" ? He was one of those Old West characters who walked both sides of the law and had a penchant for violence. Horse thief, mine guard, lawman and killer, he was also an artist and skilled saddle maker. Acquitted several times for killings committed during his tenure as a sheriff, he was finally convicted and served 18 months in prison for manslaughter. After his release in 1916 he moved to Wyoming and opened a saddle shop. The shop burned down in 1926 and Bob departed and vanished from the public record. His ultimate fate is unknown. You can learn more here:
https://www.craigdailypress.com/news/from-the-museum-archives-bad-bob-meldrum-lawman-artist-killer/. And his pistol? Once on display at the museum, the revolver was sold in 2010 for $258,000.

Abilene

The only Bad Bob I was aware of was the comic albino outlaw played by Stacy Keach in the Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean.  :)

The story is interesting but I somehow doubt the part about the gun selling for over 250k in 2010.

I'm only reporting what the article said about the sale. They went on to say they have a replica revolver on display after the original was sold

Hair Trigger Jim

James D. Julia says it sold for $258,750 and apparently that's partly because it was one of only 16 factory-gold-inlaid 1st gen SAAs.  I guess I don't know the source on that last stat, but I can't argue with this source on the price.

Well, that explains a lot.  Thanks for that link.   But Pietta gypped you out of the gold inlays!  :D
