Hair Trigger Jim

I found this poem about Hair Trigger Jim published in the Highland Park News-Herald (California), Friday, July 5, 1929.

Here it is in text:

BAA-D MEN

Up under Dead Angel mountain rim,
  Down Hell-Fire basin way,
I met with ol' Hair Trigger Jim,
  A-ridin' like hell-to-pay.

He rode on a cougar, lickety-split
  Just kickin' up clouds o' dirt;
He was usin' his bowie knife fer a bit,
  With a live rattlesnake fer a quirt.

He had a wildcat tucked under one arm,
  Yet he rode with a good free rein---
A gila monster he wore fer a charm,
  Tied onto his neck with a chain.

"Where are you goin'?" I called fer to say,
  "An what's all the hurry about?"
To which he replied: "Get out of my way---
  There's a tough bird runnin' me out!"
