Just this morning I watch a Mark Novack video with great content.

Recently, I had temperately stewardship of a Brazilian Contract 1911, It was pre-war. I was to clean, conserve and test the piece, before it was donated a museum.

I did not take before and after photos, because it wasn't that much of change visibly.
Except, the homemade grips seen in the photos, were replaced with a set of checkered from eBay which were more correct for its ventage.
It now is on display at the museum.
On my last trip shooting at a few different Cowboy shoots I saw a 1911 that had those exact grips on it. They looked to be homemade.

Kevin, ever since I saw your photo and the 1911 Tec-Mat I wanted one.
I had one for a Glock, but it had seen better days.
Spilled some acetone got on it, and it ate it up some. it remained sticky, had to toss it.
Amazon.com was the source, a 1911 Tec-mat is wing it way to me right now  :)

 :) AH WELL  ;)

Some several Lustrum (I know) ago, when I was taking guns apart for money, I became frustrated with small parts rolling off the bench and disappearing into the Dust Bunnies.  Then, out of the blue, a compatriot asked why I hadn't discovered magnetic "Truck Signs."  You know, those nifty temporary business signs some folks stick onna side of their pick-em-up trux or the Tupperware Ladies stick on their SUV.  So I picked up a couple of "seconds" from a local sign shop.  Put 'em upside down onna bench and ever since the little springs and screws STAY onna bench.  Burma Shave  ;D

+1 on something magnetic! I use a couple of those magnetic dishes whenever parts come off a gun. Even bought a couple for the gunstore I part-time at.

I got a call from my friendly LGS, seems a guy ordered a CMP 1911 Field Grade and had brought it in.

I was asked to look it over and assess it.
It was pretty clean, and quite interesting...
The Frame was an Ithica, the slide was Israeli, the barrel was aftermarket of unknown manufacture, the grips were new manufacture brown plastic, but had a bit of use.

I was told, the gun was from the 4-round selection.
I was also told the guy paid $1100.

Course I know it is or was a genuine service arm, a Mixmaster for sure an Anniston Army Depot rebuild, (April 1976 ?)

Still at $1100, someone saw somebody coming !
