Good morning all! Back to the Back Doc again this AM. Much improved, almost feeling human again. 75 here now, getting back to normal mid to upper 80s now. Sunny and watching the hummingbirds chase each other around at the feeder. Slim, have a good time at the Zoot Shoot! Del, congrats on the move, being closer to family is important.

Ooh Tommyguns, always makes me miss mine, until I pick one up again! Yikes. No wonder it took young guys to lug those things around all day. Anyway on the subject of guns, ran by the LGS to swap out some hardware one a couple of long guns, put linear compensators on a Mini30 and a 300 Blackout AR. Went by Wallyworld and bought a metal pan and some nail polish remover [it's pur acetone] and when I got home detail stripped the Tisas and then soaked the slide in the remover. After about a half hour, I started scrubbing with 0000 steel wool and it stripped that rattle can paint right off. They had already stripped the bluing/parkerizing off, so I have a bare slide to work with now. I am taking pictures as I go along, so I will get them posted later. Anyway, gonna relax for a bit now.

One of my favorite TV shows, "Combat!", starred the actor Vic Morrow. He toted a Thompson. The first few episodes it was the real McCoy he lugged around, but soon his complaints about the weight earned him an aluminum copy for static shots. Much lighter.

Very cool, I've done a couple of rattle can assaulted guns,
one was a Walther AC 41 P38 and the other a
WW1 Ruby.
The Ruby became mine, and went under the acetone wash (I keep a Pint under my work bench)
First photo is before - also note the grips are polyurethane coated and are on upside down.

2nd photo is after Note: the original Blue is about 90%, no clue why it was painted.
3rd photo shows the French acceptance stars, which were obscured by the spray paint.

Here is the P38, both guns came from the same source, again no idea why they were painted..
Only surmised for looks

1st photo before
2nd soaking in the acetone wash

and finally
3rd & 4th there was no original finish anywhere, but the gun was fully functionable.

edit: I really did not have an opportunity to buy the P38, it was already spoken for
and frankly sold for premium $$$ above my comfort zone.
But the new owner was OK with the price, I guess.

A WW2 Era P-38 was the first pistol I ever shot, Always wanted to pick one up.But always seemed out of my available cash on hand when I found one.

Me too!
When it came to spending my saved up lunch and tobacco money, I went for a genuine Colt 1911 Series 70 instead. Still regret selling that ....

My first P38 was actually a P1, German Police trade-in the one with the hardened steel hex bolt installed across the frame.
I acquired it in a trade, wasn't a bad shooter,
It had been refurbished, and came with a spare Magazine in the box with import paperwork,
take down instructions.
I traded it back to my late friend, at some point.

That would have been after, I acquired my Mauser P.38 - byf 44 with Nazi military acceptance proofs.
It was a GI bring back but aside from the accompanying 1945 dated GI Capture paper
I have no back story as how, when or where sadly.  :(
Shown with the gun is a holster, not related to the gun other than display.

I'm going to change the oil on my John Deere mower.
It is almost effortless, with the John Deere Easy Change Oil Change System.
However, you pay for that effortlessness $50 for the filter which contains the oil.
No Draining, no mess no used oil to dispose of. Just pitch the old filter w/ old oil in it. 1/4 turn off and a 1/4 replace and you are done.
Just as a washer & dryer simplified laundry Day which rendered moot beating your shorts on a rock!
Or jumping in the truck, beat hitching up the horse for trip to town.

Packing for the move, last thing to be packed will be my desk, this in the right hand desk drawer. In fact only gun in the house, the rest are in my brothers fireproof vault for now.  Six in the cylinder, 12 spares, need to get some loaded when I have time. Likely all I would need.

Slim has shot it, I think he needed finger extensions, fits my long fat hand, looks like more grip than gun.  ;) Very nice, very safe trigger.

Ruger Single Six in 32 mag with 5 1/2 inch barrel, nephew has Dad's with the 6 1/2.  Slim saw me hit the silly-wets at Jerrys place at 200 about half the time. 8)

Loaded with a 122gr FNGC plainly a hunting load not some exotic thing cook up that is supposed to expand and cause excessive damage. That and being here in Nebraska it would never cause problems, besides the state would never want to spend the money to keep me, I would suck up resources.

A lot of holster wear, bought it new with my Christmas bonus in 1988.

If I find someone with a 327 Smith reamer it could be opened up a bit and then I could get that level factor loads.  32 mag first came in H&R's and were loaded to 38 special pressure. New327 have an 8 hole with out flutes, I like this better.

I recall the very first firearm I bought, when I turned 21, (Legal age then as it is now)
was Ruger Single Six.
Old design 3 screw before the transfer Bar, was a thing.
It wasn't my first gun, in fact Dad had given me his Remington Mod. 347 Bolt action 22 LR.
when I was 10 years old....
The next gun was I purchased @ age 21 was an Iver Johnson Mod.999 which I gave to my Dad for a Christmas gift that year.
I bought it at Kmart (remember? they sold guns) in fact now they are gone belly up themselves.
I still have these two, but I traded the Single Six off, and now I can't recall for what.
It was cool gun then only cost $67.50 brand new in the box.
