Hello, this is my first post.

I have a Spencer Patent 1882 pump shotgun.  The serial number is 388.  The gun is in pretty good shape.  I am trying to find any information about it that I can.  Such as when it was made, where it was made and who actually made it.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Tom,

Check out the SORI Thread on the SSS home page for starters.  The The Roy M. Marcot book, "Spencer Repeating Firearms", devotes Chapter 15 to the Spencer Shotgun. Chapter 16 has info on the Bannerman Spencer Shotgun.

Book is very pricey, now.

Email me at fsgrand2@fairpoint.net and I will add your alias to the membership list.

Regarding the Roy Marcot book:  I suggest checking with your local public library; maybe they can arrange for you to loan it.  (And maybe you have access to a xerox-machine or scanner...?)

Hello, Tom, and welcome:

Please try to post photo's of your Spencer shotgun.
There are Vol's 1 and 2 of Marcot.
I don't have Vol 1, but if you email me at the address to the upper left, I will share the related material in Vol 2. Smiles.

The Spencer 1882 pump-action shotgun was designed by Christopher Miner Spencer and Sylvester Howard Roper. It was produced by the Spencer Arms Company from 1882 to 1889 or 1892, and later by Francis Bannerman & Sons from 1890 to 1907. As far as I know.

The Marcot Book is available from various dealers on www.abebooks.com with varying prices.  Got mine before Christmas from www.halfpricebooks.com for a reasonable price, and it looks like it was never opened.

As stated above, one can probably Inter Library Loan (ILL) most books through your local library.  I even received one on the .32 Winchester Self Loading Rifle that came from the Library of Congress.
