Have you ever wondered what your work will look like after years of use? I got to find out just that. Some 35+ years ago I made a pencil holder for my wife's mother. It has been on the back corner of the kitchen counter, a couple feet from the stove, all this time. My MIL died the other day and the pencil holder came back to me. Here is what it looks like today. Sorry I don't have a before photo but the character on this piece is amazing. What the thing has gone through is anyone's guess. It has had open pens pitched in it point down, been splattered by stove grease and handled with dirty hands. There was a thick layer of pencil dust and paper clips in the bottom. Yet it survived just fine.

Sorry for the loss in your family. That thing has lots of character though. It was one of those things that just does its job day after day.

Very sorry for your family loss.
That piece show both talent and durability to your craftsmanship so many years passed.
It is an heirloom in its own right, I'd be proud of it too.

My condolences on your loss. That pencil holder is a memento to be forever treasured. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Thanks, pards.

My wife's mother had a lot of issues and was ready and happy to pass. She's free of discomfort, now.

The pencil holder sure changed color over the years. Originally the flower and border were natural. Inside that and the top & bottom beads were black. The rest of it had a light brown tint. My wife now is using it.
