Ordered a pair of Pietta 1858s withe 5 1/2-inch barrels from Cabela's yesterday before the price goes up. Guess I need to start thinking about find a capper that works and maybe a pair of hammer springs that are easier on the thumb.

Yankee John

Bill,  I wouldn't be too worried about the hammer springs just yet.  My Cabela's/Pietta Remington 5 1/2"  came with a light spring factory installed.  Everyone I know that has one also said the same thing.

John: Thanks for the head's up! I'll just hunt for a capper for now.

I bought a cheap (Cva or Traditions) inline brass capper I went hoime took it apart and filed the capper end to match the contour of the cap cavity, put the springclip (cap holder) baxk on and it works fine. I did try it in the cavity first and made some minor adjustments with the file.
