The Trinity Kid

Evening all.

65 and sunny in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

Today was my first day with the Forest Service. Nothing terribly interesting happened, mostly paperwork. That's about it.

I love the smell of Black Powder in the morning!

Johnny, I like your style.    I am definitely a fan of red, but I am not one of those, oh the white wine bottle is half full, or oh, the red wine bottle is half full.   I am the rose bottle is full kind of guys. ;D

I've come a long way as a wine connasewer. In the service, I used to drink Thunderbird and Ripple at $.50 per bottle. Now I'm up to Winking Owl at $3.29 per bottle.

I believe, I recall you told me you served in the late 1950's
Well, if you use the CIP calculator, Inflation from 1960 to 2023 $0.50 in 1960 is worth $5.12 today.
If in 1959 you had paid $3.29 that bottle of Winking Owl, it was worth $34.30 today.

Good thing you don't drink Domaine Leroy Musigny Grand Cru  :o

In 1955 I worked in a Supermarket as a carry-out boy for $.90 per hour and we were not allowed to accept tips. I wonder what would that be today?

Thanks Major. The Federal minimum wage in 1955 was upgraded to $1.00 per hour.  As I remember, I started at $.90 per hour.

$10.23 per hour is above the current Federal minimum of $7.25 per hour.

Del, still praying for you guys here.
Well spent today out at my usual CAS Club, Outlaw Camp, wasn't shooting but running a couple of tables for my LGS. Will be out there tomorrow too, hoping it will be a good return for my store, my Boss is a real good guy. Relaxing now, watching the Cards play at Boston, hope they can start winning regularly. Anyway, you guys have a good one.

She's taking it fairly good, as good as can be expected.  She says she is not going to give up, just going to be harder, but chemo has came along way and the grandkid says she's got all kinds of wigs. ;)

I stepped out on the lanai and saw Coral Snake which beat a retreat and I lost sight of him.
Yes, I'm sure it was one, I know the difference between " Yellow & Red kill ya dead " and the black & yellow touching bands = King snake.
Coral snakes are not aggressive, and though the venom is highly poisonous bites to humans are rare.
They are not aggressive, and the fangs and bite are small.

I read they are out in the morning cool (mostly live underground) and in the Spring looking to mate.
Which concerns me, I don't want eggs to hatch into a brood of vipers  :o

That's very true...it was only a phrase.
however, they are considered some of the most toxic snakes in North America because their venom contains powerful neurotoxins.

Just having fun, someone asked a dutch oven question the other day nd somebody was upset that I explained it with science. ;D

If you want fun tell someone that rattlesnakes ain't poisonous and after they take 10 minutes telling you how dumb you are then ask them if they are poisonous why people can eat them.  Was sure you did know the difference.

Fun with snakes  ;D

Years ago, I was on location Texas (The Alamo Film)....there were these three fellows (friends of mine) from Missouri.
It was out in a wooded area, and they were sitting on rather large diameter fallen tree trunk.
I walked over and we were engaged in conversation, it went on for a few minutes, when I casually asked " is that a SNAKE" pointing beneath them.....

these guys jumped straight up from a seated position simultaneously ... much like a startled cat will leap
several feet in the air like a coil spring  ;D

I was greatly amused, but apparently " you don't ever say SNAKE to a Missourian. "    :o
