Sir Charles deMouton-Black

Mine birth year gun is an Husqvarna model 20, underlever, 12 gauge.

The closest to my birth year I do have is my post war S&W Military & Police made in 1946 in 38 Special.

I like S&W M&P's
Drydock is, of course, correct about the number under the crane. Martial Smiths would have one on the butt, one on the barrel and one on the cylinder. (at least my 1899 does)

My victory is actually a PRE-Victory. I bought it from a non-dealer and got it really cheap. In fact my son commented that the purchase felt "Sketchy" After shooting it I figured out why he sold it so cheap. Somebody had dropped it on it's muzzle and it was really inaccurate. I got it recrowned and, walla, it shoots fine now.

I'll put in a pic of a Victory I picked up a couple of months ago. Yup, it's a sad little mud puppy, but I can't wait to shoot her and dress her up a bit:

I would have grabbed that one myself. I said it before, it has Fitz Special bones  :)

This 32/20 Hand ejector has special meaning and history for me.
It was my Dad's gun on board the Lenape' his 1930's 32foot cabin cruiser.
In January 1942 following the Japanese attack, he volunteered himself and the boat for the coast guard axillary duty.
He and 1 sometimes two armed guardsmen cruised Biscayne Bay & upper Key Largo.
Early in the war, the CG did not have enough small craft for their job searching for enemy agents or saboteurs from German U-boats.
Dad never had to use the gun in that service, but still it was there.
In the time he served, till the Civilian Mosquito was phased out in May of 42, Dad said they saw several fires off Miami.
These were struck freighters by U-Boats.

I have a frankengun inbound that started out life with matching barrel cylinder and butt numbers.  Butt and cylinder still match but the 2 inch barrel has different numbers and .38S&W Brit stamping.  Is close to the end of the pre Victory serial number range on the butt and cylinder.

Here it is.  Obviously chambers bored to accept .38 special.  One can see a faint step were the .38 S&W brit chamber ended.  Still undecided as to what to feed it.  Certainly am not going to try to get .357 Mag performance out of the old war horse. With a 90xxxx serial number was pretty close to the end of the run before the Victory model serial numbers started.  I am guessing it crossed the pond in early 42 as a 877xxx shipped 12/41.  Another gun I can go all Sam Spade with.

Deacon I see your mud puppy suffers from the electric pencil, like mine...

Also, it never occurred to me that S&W s did not absolutely need the front latch....

Without the barrel latch the old triple lock becomes a double lock.  Seems to lock up pretty tight.
