Rare shot pistols

On their best day they are truly pug ugly.

I never knew they existed. I have seen a couple of old Colt's with smooth bores, 5 1/2 in barrels and in 44WCF or 45 Colt used by exhibition shooters to break glass balls in the air.

Tascosa Joe, I completely agree!

And, I can't imaine why I would ever need or want one. I can understannd the collector wanting them as they are so rare and were only prototpyes.

There were actually 21 made. 1 stayed with the owner and the rest sold. I never shot one but notice no loading gate. If the barrel is pointed up, a round (fired or not) would tend to back out and prevent the cylinder from rotating until it was taken all the way out or pushed back in.

GaryG, why on earth was there no loading gate? I would think recoil would dislodge a round as well. Seems to me that would make it totally unreliable.

On most revolvers with or without a loading gate, the chamber only lines up at half cock, or while the cylinder is unlocked. When the cylinder is locked in place such as when fired, the chamber doesn't quite line up so nothing can fall out then.

Quite a few "Conversions" were made without loading gates. Long cylinder guns come immediately to my weak mind. I think it is a neat concept and it works well so long as one doesn't point one pistol "up."

PS: Those Prototypes are some Butt Ugly though. Yech!

I have one of them with the M-4 flash hider on it. I'll try to dig it out of the safe and put a picture of it on here.
