Graveyard Jack

Picked up these in the last few weeks. The 8" gun has the factory antiqued finish and proper .44Colt chambers. The 5.5" I picked up this week at Dixie Gun Works. It's also marked .44Colt but has .44Spl chambers.

Started a new holster for it. Almost done by now.

Don't think I've posted pics of my newest Open Top .44 either. Need to do a good holster for the 5.5" guns.

Nice line-up, Craig. It's nice to have those in .44 cal.

The holster is looking very nice. Be sure to post photos of it in the Leather shop. Did you use a concho cutter to outline the rosette? It came out looking quite good.

I also look forward to seeing the holsters for the 5-1/2" ones, too.  :D

Thanks! No but that's a good idea. I use a stencil I made up for that but I should probably come up with something better. The holster is a replacement for one I sold but should have kept. One of the first that I aged. Last night I aged and oiled the replacement. Didn't get any cracks but it wrinkled up nice. Should be finished today so maybe pics later this evening.

This one was from 2016.

Thanks, you did such an even job on it I wondered about that. I've often thought about ordering one just for the purpose.

Thanks, that's my anal retentiveness at work. Apparently it's genetic.  ;D

That does sound like a good idea. Does Osborne make them?

That one you found is a good price if it will do the trick. Osborne makes better punches but they're costly. A 1-1/4" one runs $95. There must be cheaper ones out there but I suspect the quality drops with the price.

I haven't been 100% impressed with Osborne the last few years either. My punches from the Weaver Master series have been better and cheaper.

The Osborne needles are fantastic, however. I bought four packs (25?) of them, I guess assuming they would break as often as the Tandy needles. Still on the first pair.  ::)

I'll remember to check Weaver for tools, too, then.

+1 to the Osborn needles. I bought a couple packs myself a number of years ago and still have quite a few. I do break one now and then when I'm making it do more than it should.

Excellent line up and great looking holsters as always.

Nice 'Hoglegs' and holsters. Reference your 5.5" Uberti Colt marked 44 Colt but chambered in 44 Special if you aren't aware of the 'why', this is what I was advised of. Back in around 2006/2007 I bought my first Uberti Colt conversion type, a Cimarron marketed Open Top Model. While not a true conversion but a separate model by Colt back in the early 1870's I was told by a Cimarron salesman that many of their customers wanted their Uberti Open Tops and conversions chambered in 44 Special but due to the often overused and I can't stand "Period Correct" term, shooters didn't want 44 Special stamped on their revolvers that came out in the early 1870's due to the fact the Special didn't come about until around 1907.

Sooo...Mike Harvey the founder/owner of Cimarron asked Uberti to stamp 44 Colt on the Open Tops and Conversions even though they were chambered in 44 Special. My Open Top is like this, but a Richards II I bought several years later around 2009 from Cimarron is stamped 44 Special. I wanted the Richards to be in 44 Special to match the OT and a Uberti 44 Special Uberti Yellow Boy rifle. I was advised by a Cimarron employee when buying the Richards II that Cimarron/Uberti ceased the practice. There have been other mentions and/or questions by CAS posters here on the forum over the years about this. Both revolvers are 7.5/8" barreled. The yellow boy is the short rifle model. All great shooters, have no problem with the 44 Colt cartridge in the 66 Yellow Boy.

About all shoot through the three anymore are FF black powder loaded 44 Colts using Mav Dutchman cast bullets. My plan at the time was to load all 44 Colt brass with black and 44 Specials with smokeless powder for easy ID between the two. Still in effect today, but most Specials I load anymore are a bit hotter and shot through several 44 Mag revolvers and a Marlin 94. I've since acquired two 5.5" Uberti Richards/Mason conversions, one in 44 Colt-the other in 38 Special. Of the four, the Richards II is my favorite if I were to pick one.

That makes sense, I feel the same way, although the chambering doesn't matter to me because I'm going to use .44Colt in all of them. I have five guns marked .44Colt and one #3 Russian marked .44Russian. All are .44Special except the above 8" 1860 and my engraved Open Top from 2006. It is nice to be able to use .44Colt in my Russian.

Recently got a Cimarron in 44 Special/ 44 Russian/ 44 Colt.  Shoots point of aim and under 2 inches at 50 feet. Beautifully finished too.

My Open Tops are a "set."  They are equipped with .38 cylinders and barrels, .44 cylinders and barrels and .45 Schofield barrels.  The Schofield cylinders will NOT chamber 45 Colt.  As a fun point, my .44 Barrels are actually roll stamped 44-40!!  Uberti never made Open Tops in 44-40 - weird.

I did have a pair of .44 Open Tops that were roll marked 44 Colt, and would not chamber 44 Special.  44 Colt or Russian only.  A friend of mine just had to have 'em so I sold them as mine are "Convertible" to all three primary cartridges.

The Open Tops by Uberti are the most versatile guns ever in the CAS game.

Let's Have FUN Out There!!

Lots of practice! Draw guidelines with the wing divider and cut them with the fat-bladed swivel knife.
