Yes, I understand that the US prices for pistols of this kind are much higher.  Almost makes me want to look into whether they can be exported ... although I have a sneaking suspicion that is not allowed for any of these "prohibited" firearms ... otherwise they wouldn't be so low-priced here. 

I have been outbid on this Colt .32ACP 1903 Hammer pistol (... in the same September 28 auction ...) so it is now sitting at a whopping Cdn$75.00 (about US$56.25) ... but I won't do anything to drive the price any higher until the day of the auction ...

Well, well, well ... turns out that pistols like this can be exported from Canada!   
(They probably welcome it, now that I think of it ...)

It apparently takes a permit obtained from "Global Affairs Canada" (... I believe that is the politically correct newspeak name for what used to be the Department of Foreign Affairs ...)  along with other bureaucratic paperwork ... and no doubt similar hoops would need to be jumped through in the United States as well.  However, the price differential on these sorts of handguns sure makes it seem like it might be a worthwhile business venture for a couple of like-minded individuals ... one on each side of the border!

Well, then, this warrants some investigation... for an individual to acquire import firearms it looks like part of form 6 is required through an FFL... but if you are looking to resale it requires the full form 6.  I will do some more investigation.  Maybe a gunshop is on my wish list... that could certainly be fun!!

One type of firearm legally "prohibited" in Canada is "handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm or less or that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition", but under section 12(6) of the Firearms Act, anyone who already legally owned at least one such handgun when that prohition came into effect, is "grandfathered" to not only continue to own (and shoot) it, but also to legally acquire, own, and shoot any other handgun covered by the definition.  (It is not legally possible to acquire this "grandfathered" status in any other way, and one can only dispose of such handguns to another person wo is also "grandfathered" ... OR they can be passed on to a child ... who then can legally own them and pass them on similarly, but cannot acquire more. One of my two daughters has her Possession and Acquisition License, and owns firearms, so ...) 

I assume your government is tracking them. What happens in the case of catastrophic failure or other loss? How would you have to document that?

Wish list- hmm. Well, here are some that are at the top of mine- top three I don't what order they'll come in. All reproductions, and will be Cimarrons if I can help it as I like their markings.

5.5" nickeled Old Model P in .44WCF. Gonna put the black plastic rampant colt and eagle checkered grips on this one.

19" '73 saddle ring carbine in .44WCF

A nice vintage hammered double with damascus barrels, preferably 10 gauge, second choice 20 as I already have some brass hulls

28" 1876 rifle in .50-95

Yes, Big Brother wants to keep track of them, as well as all our other registered handguns which fall into the "Restricted" category. If one of them blew up or the like while being fired, the serial-numbered frame/receiver (which is what is legally deemed to be the firearm) would have to be accounted for (... everything else is just "gun parts".) A "loss" ... such as might happen in the proverbial "tragic boating accident" ... would have to be documented, possibly supported by a sworn affidavit or such.  Oppression lives ...

I was thinking much more mundane. With as often as someone comes into the office here at the school and says, "Is this chromebook one of the school's? I found it in the parking lot." Or, " I found it in the intersection south of the school." When we ask the kid about it and he says, " Oh, I forgot it on top of my car and drove off." Our chromebook bags are about the same size and shape as a soft pistol case. You KNOW it has to have happened. I've never done that with anything more valuable than a cup of coffee, but still...

Having overloaded--with BP!--a repro 45 Colt, I'm looking for the "right" 44 Special.  Uberti, black powder frame, with 4 click hammer.  I'll find one someday.

Probably right after I've spent all my money for the day, but I will find one!

(Trying to remember where I recently saw a 1903 Colt for reasonable money, just in case I ever need trade bait for one of you guys.  )

I don't have a Savage, but I have, a Steyr 08-32, a Ruby, a Beretta M35, and a Mauser 1914.

I have an affinity for pre-WW2 handguns that just sort of morphed into a modest collection.
On occasion, one pops up at my frendly FFL or I find one from a private owner or heir.

I certainly would love to add a Colt 1903 or Savage

Reviewing posts, I have many that made the list.
My favorites, Merwin's.
Have a short barreled 44 single action with skull crusher grip, & a 7 shot 32 DA.
Next a couple acquisitions this year, a couple of Remington Rolling Blocks.
1st, my "Ugly Baby" in 44/40. Baby Rolling Block, sn 24. Less than 10% nickel remains, standard config 18" or 20" bbl. Mine likely prototype at 17.5" bbl.
If NCOWS adds a single shot category, I am there!
2nd, an 1871 Army. Nickname "Thumper". Shooting it with 56/50 Spencer, 365 grain bullet, & minimum BK, recoil sharp.
About 6000 produced, 5000 for USA, mine is an unaltered civilian model.
