To All, Iowa will hold the Div. Muster on Oct. 1st. with a handgun fun shoot on the 2nd. The muster will be 2 stages plus precision rifle and pistol. Approximate round count for the muster is 55 rifle and 15 pistol. This is a no miss match, so plan accordingly. The fun shoot on the 2nd. is 24 rounds per run. All standard GAF categories for the muster. The categories for the fun shoot will be, GAF approved semi-auto, GAF approved double action, GAF approved single action and modern. Camping is available at the range. We will be providing lunch on Sat. Unfortunately, this will be the last event at this range. The owners of the range have decided to retire. The upside is we will be pulling out everything to make this a farewell to be remembered. More details as they develop. Hope to see you there, Al

I believe that would be Colfax, Ia, if it's where it was when I went before.

Sirs, Will the Sunday Handgun Shoot also be held at the Colfax Range?  If so, is there a lead bullet only requirement for the modern guns?   Does "pulling out everything" mean we get to shoot up the Range and all the props, and burn it down when we're done?

Surely, A Shoot to Remember, Thanks Matt!

Apologies all! Sorry, I am at a tough point. I replied to a post, my reply deleted! After seeing post deleted, replied again under the influence, also deleted!
To this day, don't believe I crossed the line to be deleted, so quit GAF.
This weekend, attended 2x shoots at the last 2x cowboy shoots at a friends range. Carried heavy. One gun carried, 1871 Remington Army. 50 caliber, 50/70 doesn't fit. 56/50 Spencer fits. Asked for permission to fire a 50 caliber pistol, was refused. After explaining gun/ammo, given permission to fire. 3x others asked for permission to shoot, I was open to it carried enough ammo for anyone who wanted to to fire, although recoil strong, all 3 who fired, walked away with a smile!
Part of me wants to come back to GAF, part of me doesn't care. Can come on Sunday, let anyone who wants to try it, part of me doesn't care!
Sorry
Brian

BNS, yes, Sunday's activities will be at the Colfax range. Jacketed bullets are allowed for the modern category. No magnum loads, no rifle calibers (including 500 S&W). Bring what you want for Sat. happy fire and Sun. with the understanding that the range owners (Matt/Doug) will have final say on its use. I'll post a weather forecast this weekend. See ya then, Al

Answered Privately, but, yes, you absolutely COULD come back. You left, we didn't kick you out and speaking for myself I hold no hard feelings. I still consider you a friend and appreciate all that you've done for the GAF over the years. As to whether or not you should, I suppose that you are the only person who can definitively answer that question. I may disagree with you, but in the end it's your decision.

Won't compete, but will visit on Sunday, bring an 1871 Remington Army with BP 56/50 ammo, open for anyone to try. My nickname for gun "Thumper", this gun is rare, it is an unaltered civilian model.
Last weekend, carried to shoot, asked for permission to shoot a 50 caliber, range owner said no! When I explained gun/ammo, given OK, on 1st shot, range owners son came up & asked , how much ammo did you bring?
4 others shot it, although hard recoile, all walked away with a smile on their face.
Sunday will have gun/ammo for anyone to try.

I am looking for a hotel recommendation in Colfax. What is a good one for a good price?

Slim, the Microtel in Colfax is the only one I would consider, the others are less than desirable. Newton, ten miles east, might be a better option. Drydock found a good one just off I-80 near Moo's. On the brighter side, the forecast for the weekend is dry with temps. in the 70's. Looking forward to seeing everyone then.

For those travelling this weekend, the westbound entrance ramp to I-80 at Grinnell is closed. Several of the county roads in the area have bridge work being done. Please check the Iowa DOT website for updates.

Will visit, won't compete. Will carry my 1871 Remington Pistol, unaltered civilian version,  & ammo, 56/50 Spencer. Anyone who wants to fire, can. My nickname for gun is "Thumper", 365 grain bullet, minimum BP load has a sharp recoil.
