I'll bet there are not too many places where you can see wild horses in the wild. These are the wild horses of the Salt River in Arizona. We have had to fight to keep them from being destroyed or sold off by the US Forest Service.

Scenes like that remind me that beautiful places still exist as they did years ago. Went to the Superstitions last year, there's something about that place that speaks to me. Can't explain it.

I am not particularly a big fan of horses, but I sure do LIKE all of that open country.

A horse will get you to some wonderful places and packing on them makes wilderness hunting possible. But feral horses will destroy our scenic lands if not managed.

How so?  I hear the U.S. Forrest service say that, but then offer up no evidence.

I live in Dayton Nevada... I see them all the time.
I call them our street gang, they just walk through the neighborhoods going from house to house mowing the lawns for everyone.  I have had as many as 14 horses in my front yard, and they tend to stay there for a few hours, then move on.

There are horse droppings all over my neighborhood, but we generally don't mind.  What we do mind is all the horse/vehicle related incidents.  I myself hit a horse on a very windy canyon road one night at around 1am coming back from a wedding.  I came around a tight corner at about 35mph and immediately saw nothing but legs...there were a good dozen of them standing on the highway on a blind corner.  Well, that didn't end well for my truck... The horse actually got away much easier than my truck did, so thank God for that.

But we have had a couple of fatal accidents, once included a fatality for a local sheriff's officer.  So they're a bit of a nuisance in that way, but we generally really love our wild horses.

Sad to say, but with all the GD developers, we are starting to lose those places. Kinda like the "Eagles" song, "call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye".
