Hello, I am wondering if any of you might have a pattern or any pointers for a Rifle Stock Cover?

Just one of the covers that goes over the stock and I will add some .357 bullet loops to it if need be.

If not, I will just working on trying to make a completely new pattern this weekend.

I know it is not a hard design to figure out but like I said, I am a tad short on time.

Thanks for any help or pointers.

I have one for a model 73 but you could make one faster than I could find it and get it to you.

Wrap a piece of paper around the stock and cut it with a 1/4" gap down the center. Make it long enough to keep the stock from getting scratched by the hammer of the shooter's pistol when held across the body. Stand it butt first on a piece of paper and trace around that for the butt cover. I like garment leather for the whole thing. Stitch the butt piece in with the cover inside out. Lace it on with a harringbone pattern like you would a shoelace. Simple and effective.

I like the idea. I'm going to play around with it this weekend and see what I can come up with. Thanks.

I just thought of a couple points to play with. If I make one with the smooth side out, I put the rough side out on the butt piece. That helps it stay put on the shooter's shoulder.

I like to put some stiff foam rubber under the butt piece to fill it out. I cut it out of one of those kneeling pads you get in the garden department of Walmart or some place similar.

I look forward to seeing what you make for it.

Well, I had to put this on the back burner for a bit but last week I ended up making one.

Here is what I came up with. One of the things I would possibly change is I would maybe not add as many holes for the lacing. With so many holes it takes so much lacing. After searching through all my lacing I could not find any that would fit so I ended up cutting a piece of lace that just barely fit. Then when I dyed it.....well.... it shrunk enough that I was one hole short. So, in the photos you will see the front hole just has it tucked in for photo purposes. I need to find a longer piece of lacing as none of my current leather supply will allow me to make any that is longer.

It holds 10 .357/.38spl rounds.

That's a simple design. It looks like it would fit on just about anything. You could make it come down a little farther on the sides so it doesn't use up so much lace. Thanks for the finished photos.

Thanks Marshal. Yeah, it was very simple. You're right in that making it come down a little further would also help with the lacing issue.

I ended up going with some 72" boot lacing that I found in town by accident.

:)  Well Heck  ;)

That wrap is way COOL!!  I made "Barrel Wraps" for my Side Load transitional Henry rifles.  Used the same lacing.  Was wandering the local dying Mall shoe store and suddenly had an E-Pip-Nanny about boot laces.  They work a treat.

Thank you Sir. I am happy with the way it turned out for the most part and have ideas for change should I ever do another.

Thanks Rube. I have put similar covers on all my long guns. These cold winters give me plenty of time to make them.
