Afternoon all.

I have successfully navigated the I-90 corridor the the far lands of Spokane, WA and back. Mother Nature threw a white out at me between the Idaho border and St. Regis both directions, but I made it safely. The reason for the trip: CBP interview. I did well enough to keep my tentative selection status, so I guess I have that going for me. Next weekend I make the pilgrimage to Whitefish, MT to get a taste of the job.

Current weather in Missoula is 31 with little flakes falling but not sticking.

The snow we were supposed to get yesterday morning amounted to about ¼ in. and lasted all of about an hour before melting.
However, it seems this weekend we are looking at a couple feet of more of the white stuff up on the Hill, at and above 7000 ft.  That should give most of the ski areas a boost!  It will probably cause major problems getting over the Hill to California, but as I don't plan on going there it won't bother me!  As long as it stays above 6000 ft. it won't bother me.  If it drops lower, I have tested the snow blower and it's operational.  The three of us can fort-up and stay warm.

Made I through today with no precip. of any sort.  Haven't heard of anything going over the summit yet, but this is what we are still looking at as a possibility:

Greater Lake Tahoe Area, NV
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 10 PM PST TUESDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 feet, except 4 to 8 feet above 7000 feet. Sierra ridge winds could exceed 100 mph with periodic gusts to 50 mph in the lower elevations.
* WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area.
* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 10 PM PST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially starting Sunday night. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage. Secure holiday decorations to prevent them from blowing away.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heaviest snow is expected Sunday night into Tuesday morning when snowfall rates could reach 2-3 inches per hour. Strong winds will produce hazardous boating conditions on Lake Tahoe with wave heights of 3 feet or more.

It seems like us folks at 5000 ft are still ok!

Spoke to soon, I guess Church let out?  folks out shopping? or just nooning,' cause we got a lot of visitors the rest of the day.

One of my coolest responsibilities, is accepting artifacts.
In this case, the donation from the family of Brig. General Rodger D. Young.
General Young was a survivor of Pearl Harbor, a pilot lieutenant at Hickam Field.
He returned to Arizona and trained for B-25's; he flew 54 combat missions in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
He retired in 1973. as Brig. General, Chief of Staff of Air for the 120th Airlift Wing, in commanded of a Norad base, Airforce/National Guard in Montana.

I accessioned Gen. Young's flight suit (circa 1975) his Oversea cap (flight-cap) his Command flag (Burgee) and his US flag.

Is this a cool job or what?  ;D

Indeed, General Young is a familiar name to this MTANG Airman. Our Airman of the Quarter award is named in his honor, as is the Commander's briefing room. That was when we were the 120th Fighter Wing (currently Airlift Wing), and flying F-102 aircraft as escorts to Malmstrom's B-36 and B-52 fleets. Small world indeed.

Morning all.

Currently 25 degrees and slightly overcast. I will be making a trip to Drummond today, home of the "World Famous Bill-Shippers." I'm not sure what exactly that means, but they're proud enough about it to have a 60' sign on the highway for it. My trip involves septic tanks, not bulls, so I guess I'll have to find out some other time.

Very Cool Kid.... I intend to set a full mannequin in his flight suit w/ BTW has his leather name tag attached and
his flight-Cap, between his Burgee & the US standard, I'm requesting a portrait photo from the family (perhaps) or another source, we can copy for the display.
I will also highlight his service on plaque for display.

"Bull Shipper"  it was once the main shipping point of young cattle to (Bull Calves) to the feed lots. Using pens at Rail road and the highway system. Ranchers from all around the North West brought cattle there.
It is no longer a thing. However Drummond was the place the original "Testicle Festivsl" was held.

Major 2 - That is a great place, to Honor the General.  Yesterday I seen a C-47 used in WWII looking for a new home.  My favorite of all Aircraft.

Just got a call from Rita's friend Peg, they left here at 4:30, the other knee is done, they decided she was going to take her, not me.   Probably for the best much better but still having some problems. ::)  Something they call cough syncope, almost over that too but since it means you momentarily black out they didn't want me driving on the Interstate.   Guess I did it for about 2 minutes Thursday coming home and had a mild seizure with it, don't know, I wasn't there. ::)  Dr says when lungs fully clear it should go away.

Good to know. Now they hold the Testicle Festival (lowercase the) in Rock Creek, which is a little less than halfway between Missoula and Drummond, just past Clinton. I had to set up 15 of the portapoopers for it this year. ::)

Here in Northwestern Nevada, (Virginia City to be exact) we have the Virginia City Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry. In March on the weekend closet to St Patties Day.
This is the description from their web site:

Have a ball (or a few!) alongside 7,000 other daring revelers for a party that only the Comstock could throw. Typically occurring each March, during St. Patrick's Day weekend, this beloved annual event takes over the entire town, combining the Rocky Mountain Oyster tastings, and an Irish-themed bar crawl in historic saloons throughout town. Part of the events scene in historic Virginia City for many years, sample tasty testes from cooks competing for the title of Best Rocky Mountain Oyster Cook in the West with chefs preparing these "delecta-ball" delicacies in a way that'll sure make you forget what you're really chowing down on. Sample Rocky Mountain Oysters grilled, smoked, deep fried or even in a taco.  Or, go balls out and try them all!

They have a judging category for best presentation, the last time I was up there it went to an outfit that had a platter called two balls and a brat.  You can image the layout.

It should be back to it's old self in 2022!

A fellow from Montana decided to retire somewhere warm, so he sold his ranch and moved to the coast of Mexico. Had a beautiful little place in a charming town that had weekly bullfights and one day he went to the local cantina after the fight and the waiter told him they had Rocky Mountain Oysters. He was thrilled and tried them. They were fantastic, the best he had ever had. There after, every week he would go and enjoy them until one week when they brought them to him, they were tiny! He called the waiter over and asked him what was going on. The waiter shrugged and said "Senor, the bull, he not always lose...".

49 here right now and supposed to be real pretty tomorrow.
