I just had to post this here so others could appreciate it also.

I recently aquired a Will Ghormley Prototype SAA holster for an upcoming pattern pack that he is working on.
This holster is very Brill like. I am very much looking forward to that pattern pack.

The Brill holster is probably my favorite early 20th century holster. Feast your eyes on this beauty my friends.

Yes that is beautiful.  I've not heard of a Brill.  What is the history of this style?  Is Brill the name of the one who came up with the style?

Yes. His name was August William Brill. He came up with this design. Believe he was in the Austin Texas area and made holsters for the Texas Rangers. His style was made by a couple other leather makers in that area also. The boom Holstory really goes into detail on the Brill Holster and other styles that were popular in the early 1900s.

One of the advantages of the Brill design is that it has full skirt, trimmed to the size of the holster. This gives the toe of the holster an extra layer of leather behind it that holds the toe out, keeping the grip of the gun closer to one's side for better carry under a jacket. It's a fine design.

I have always admired it when I seen it worn on Texas Rangers in photos and such.

I have never heard of the Brill style. Might have to do some research.
