Are the tang screw hole spacings for the Uberti 76 the same as the 86 and/or 94 Winchester's? Asking for a friend. ;)

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Captain Obvious Here,

Why not measure the center to center dimension on your 76 and compare it an 86 or 94. Actually, if you post your dimension, some helpful lurker here may post the dimensions off of one of their rifles.

It looked like you were't getting any help here so I jumped in.

Well, cuz my 86's are Brownings and don't have the 2nd hole, and my 94's are newer and don't have the 2nd hole either. Sooo,,, hence the question.  ;D

Yes

Edit, I should say same as 94, I don't have an 86 but best measurement I can get without actually getting fancy appears the original 94 and 76 are the same. Original 73 is same spacing too but they have separate smaller screws and don't use the tang/stock screw for the rear hole of a tang sight.

Thank you. I'm thinking of ordering a Lyman #2 tang sight for my Presideo. I already have the screws for the Uberti threads. Are the #2's all created equal? or is there a difference betwixt the 94 and 86?

I don't know on the Lyman I have MVA on my rifles. As long as the upright can be adjusted for the angle of the tang I'd say you are good to go.

If you go the MVA route, you could call them, nd they'll answer any questions you might have.  They also make an excellent sight ;)

Reverend P. Babcock Chase

Howdy King,

I believe that the staffs of the Lyman No. 2's may have different lengths depending on the rifle they are for given any differences in dimensions between the tang and the barrel height. Not sure, but you could try calling Lyman and see. If you get an answer, it might be good for you to post it here.

Sent an email to Lyman:

I have an Uberti 1876 I am looking to mount a #2 tang sight. Which model should I get? Thank you.

Reply:
Unfortunately, we do not have any No 2 sights that would fit the 1876.

So I wrote back:
Thanks for the answer. The screw spacing's for the 76 are the same as the 86 and 94 I'm told, so wouldn't one made for an 86 work on a 76?

Will report the answer

I have an original Lyman tang sight on my half magazine 1876. The holes are the same spacing on the 76, 86, and 94. The original is marked "I" on the bottom. The 76 base is the same as the 94 as to where the tang stem is mounted but the tang stem is the height of the 86 stem. The 86 sight stem is further back on the tang. Hope this helps.

Response from Lyman from last question:

The only issue would be the thread size and screw length. We are not certain that it would work without fitting issues.

So a 94 sight will fit, but will it be tall enough.

I just laid a 94 on top of an original 76. Tang angle is the same but it does appear it's going to need more staff height just to accomplish the same so you might take that in consideration when ordering staff length.

I have a marbles peep. Model number is 9801. It is supposed to fit 1876 and 1886 Winchester. I do have a Uberti 1886 and the holes on the sight match up with my 76 and 86.

But on both of those rifles I have the same sight set up. High viz green bead and marbles barrel mounted bullseye sight. Good woods setup.

I don't know if this is any help. But here is my '76 with an Axtell exact reproduction of the Winchester sporting rifle sight, and my '94 with an original Marble tang sight. Note that both have a slight forward lean - as they should. This is often lost on the cheaper repro sights.
