....more questions. Purchased a pair of the khaki gaitors from WPG. They are certainly tough and well made. For the life of me I can't get them to look smart. I end up with a lot of trouser leg sticking out. Similar to the attached picture but worse! Guess I will just have to keep working with them.

Find a buddy in the Reserves or National Guard, and have him get you a pair of boot blousers - the type made of 1.5" elastic and velcro - strap that under the taper of your calf muscle.

Alternatively - get an elastic 'stirrup' for the very bottom of the hem, and wear them as such.

Trousers of the era were basically a jodphur, with a modified balloon thigh and tapered hem that buttoned on the sides to accomodate the legging (not gaiter) - the idea was to function as a boot top by keeping burrs and detritus out of the field shoe.

,....thanks, forgot about blousing rubbers. I had a couple pair left from my days in the service. After nearly 40 years they'd dry rotted. I'm not using the them for the OG cotton or wool trousers. My issue is the WPG canvas trousers. I may see if I can locate some new ones, may be worth a try?

.....well, went with a cheaper alternative. Wrapped my trouser leg with an old shoestring. I looked on Amazon and noticed there is also an nylon band with Velcro garter used now as well. The old blousing rubbers worked well with the OG-507's and the BDU's. Not sure how well they'd work with WPG canvas trousers? I will also fess up. I'm also fitting these over padded work boots. The back end of our course is on uneven and still wet and slick ground. Going to sacrifice authenticity for practicality. Not interested in a slip and fall.

:)  ACTUALLY, Gaters will latch onto your ankles no matter the Leggings.  Big dumb lizards just don't care.  Latch on and take ya fer the "Death Roll."  Be most carefully 'round Gaters.

Yea yea I know.  No help fer the OP.  But heck, it's Friday Morning, I'm stuck inna hotel room and are bored.  No help for it.  Needed something to do.  Something fun.
So there ya have it.  If, you have read thus far, it's too late.  You're already HERE!!

I had the local cleaners seamstress taper the legs of my khaki 1912 pants made from a walmart khaki uniform. I also had some stirrups added to my dress blues that go with my rcmp outfit where my tall tight black boots would cause them to ride up.

Not the same thing, but a friend with big legs used to make a flap with the trouser leg excess, fold it around the leg and secure it with a piece of wide masking tape.  That was before he pulled on his cowboy boots.  Who cares what it looks like underneath.  I do the same but without the tape.  Also, I have my suspenders off the shoulders and my pants a little low when I put on the boots so any extra material gets pulled up when I pull the pants up.

Wish I could pull my 'extra material' up when it gets all bunched up around my belt.

Easiest solution: tuck your trouser legs into your socks before pulling on boots or lacing up gaiters.
