No bullet mold....Many Horses will not allow me to cast bullets.  She fears I will get lead poisoning.  It is a battle that I have lost with her.  I'll slug the barrel this weekend to confirm the bullet diam. needed.  Both Buffalo Arms and Midway have 515 bullets available.
After 45 years of casting, I still don't have lead poisoning and I have been tested for lead levels.  ;D

Thanks, Major.  I use Whyte bullets in my pistol calibers, and am happy with the.
Joe...maybe Mary would listen to you...I've given up.  I've considered casting on the sly....

And IF,  your Favorite Wife will listen to Joe about the hazards of bullet casting, he can give here some advice on smoking tobacco!  I wouldn't suggest "on the sly" Troy,  that sounds dishonest. (hee hee!)

If it's any consolation Troy, my "Favorite Wife" feels the same way about me casting. I go along with it not so much because I agree with her or that I'm PW'ed or any of that, but because I have time to reload or cast, but not both.

Ha.  Yeah i barely have time for all aspects of my hobby as well, so i bite the bullet and buy them.   Also, i am a chemist and we get blood tests done at least once a year to check for nasties.    No way i want to pop for heavy metals unless it is Iron Maiden, who were awesome in 83 and 86 when i saw them.   Did more damage to my ears than all this shooting i bet.

Blues Brothers are members of grand up standing in the 'Bobble Head' gang. Troy you might check with Robert, he won a set of .50-70 moulds at the Muster banquet this past June. Reloading dies foe loan should not be an issue; 4 of us at Bergers have die sets.

FWIW I've been casting for 40 years now.  Been tested every year, 20 of those by the USN.  Never had any detected.  Have always cast in an outer building (shed/garage) with open windows.

Many Horses is softening up on the issue....I got a "maybe" I'll let you from her this weekend.
But, Jerry has a good point....there is only so much time available.

Maybe there will be more time available for you next year, when you get that four letter word, (WORK) out of your life!

I actually enjoy casting, especially the big single shot bullets.  I can and will often buy bullets for my pistol rounds, but there's a lot of artisanship in the big rounds, and you find yourself wanting to control the whole process.  Good long range ammunition damn near demands it!

Oh, it's not that I don't ENJOY casting, it's just that there are a lot of things I'd RATHER do and I just run out of time to do all of them. I pretty much HAVE to reload (I do enjoy it too) so it's higher up on the list.

So, I was just checking the order status for the Redding 50-70 dies I ordered from Optics Planet....
I noticed that the order confirmation showed them to be 45-70 dies.  Hmm...I'm sure that is NOT what I ordered!
I checked the website again, and found that there was a "typo".  The title shows the dies I ordered to be 50-70, and the description is for 45-70....
they were actually 45-70 dies.  Redding doesn't make 50-70 dies...knew this was too good to be true...

Optics Planet shows RCBS 50-70 dies shipping in 1-3 months (FWIW) and with a sale price.  In their "Group B" listings.

I've found a set here local!  I will pick them up today along with some brass, some loaded rounds, and a compression plug.  The bullet diameter is too small for my bore (~0.505" vs. 0.515" needed), so I'll be tearing down the loads or blasting them off at the range.  I should be well stocked here shortly!

Yay!  Just ordered another 250 cases from Starline.  Should get me thru the rest of my life I think.
