Have I mentioned I love my Schofield?

Posted in the Barracks, thought I would share here, too.

I have not shot it yet, but started loading 230 grain RN 45 ACP bullets over 5.0 grains of Trail Boss.  Good thump, and a close duplicate of the original round.  (In my .45 Colt 1872 Open Tops. I have been loading a 200 grain bullet over 5.5 grains TB).

Its maiden voyage will be at a local match on the 18th in two weeks.  Paired it up with my 1977 vintage Colt 1873 Single action Army and my 1894 Century Limited .44-40.

Does your new Schofield fit your holster?  The reason I ask is because Colts will fit but some will not take the new S&Ws.

Yes. it does.  It is an 1881 holster with the half flap and two stud holes in the flap.  It is made for both Schofield and Colt revolvers,

Thanks. I have one made by F.  Burgesss. An original will fit but not a new one. I've been looking for a holster a new one will fit. Thanks again.

Mine was tight as the leather was thick.  I form fitted it with alcohol, and it loosen up enough and made a nice fit.

Took the 7" Schofield to a local match to christen it.  Shot clean with it.  The 1881 holster on the prairie belt looks really cool, but is decidedly slower to do the reverse draw from. I ordered a Texas Jack's Slim Jim made specifically for the Schofield.  It is supposed to be here this week.

I have been using a 230 round nose, .452" lead .45 ACP bullet in a Schofield case with 5.0 grains of Trail Boss for my Schofield.  It seems to shoot close to pint of aim, though at SASS matches, I sight down the barrel, with the front sight centered in the "U" of the latch, above the sight notch.  I shot clean, with all rounds in the center of the plates, including some small plates at about 10 yards on one stage.  I am guessing I am at about 800 fps + or -, and close to original .45 Schofield performance.  I definitely notice more bounce from the 230s over 5.0 grains, than the 200s over 5.5 grains.

I plan on shooting it on paper, though, so I can better see where it goes.
