Thanks. Once I finally got around to getting myself a set of cap and ball Remington copies and loved the way they shot I knew I would be wanting a pair of conversions also. They did not disappoint.

:)  HEY RUBE !!   ;)

Always wanted to yell that.  Anyway, really nice guns.  Having a pair of the "older" guns is a huge PLUS!! to allow you to use the Cap Gun Cylinders interchangeably (wow that's a big wurd).

I have actually set up several of my Colt pattern SNUBBIES to be convertible.  Didn't use Gated conversions though.  R&D two piece "drop in" cylinders.  Really really fun.  Go to a multi day match and if the weather isn't swell for Cap Guns . . . swap for Suppository Cylinders and PRESTO!!  Real Fun!!

:)  OOPS   ;)

I fibbed.  Sorry.  I also built myself a pair of Colt Pattern 1860 Conversions with Kirst Konverters gated conversions.  They also accept their original Cap Cylinders.  They do look a tad "odd" with the cartridge channel thru the recoil shield but they are some easy to Cap I can tell ya.

Didn't see a lot of smoke when you were shooting those Remingtons though.  Stealthy smoke??

Well I need to load up some black powder 45 Colt but those were the smokless "stealthy smoke" Trailboss loads.

What is the best Conversion cylinder for Pieta 1858 Remington what  to get in 45ACP

Grapeshot

I picked up a Uberti NMA Conversion from Taylors a couple of years ago.  It shot really well with .45 S&W Schofield black powder loadings.  Hope to try some .45 Colt Ammo in the near future.  I've been sidelined by three back operations so as soon as I get a little steadier on my feet I'll go out to the range and see if I can still hit a target. ;)
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

 :) Well Heck ;)

Anybody know if russ1943 is still around??  It seems I missed giving and answer to his question in July 2021 and just thought I'd say something were he still interested in some insight.  Although:

Hey Russ1943  ;D

Ima little late, but it depends (no not the ones inna plastic package).  For a '58, if you want to keep the "Historical" look, I would suggest the R & D style two piece cylinders from Howell Arms or Taylors (even Midway USA & Others).  You get the choice of Blue or Stainless.  For a "Gated" conversion I really like Kirst Konverters.

I'm not sure if "all" offer ACP in Stainless, but Howell does.  Gated Kirst is not available in Stainless.

The Kirst for '58 is available gated in stainless, and available in 45acp also:

Hey Abilene!!

Atz absolutely marvelous.  I was completely unaware Kirst was making a Gated Stainless Konverter for the '58.  Way KOOL!!

Now I gotta go look for something too!!

NOPE.  Kirst doesn't make what I want.  Oh Well

Did you have any problems with binding and did you need to do any maintenance/cleaning when reloading?

Hey Rube, I just rewatched this because I picked up a pair of New Model Navies that look just like yours but they are .38's.  When you gave us a close-up I could see that there were no witness holes in the rear of the cylinder, to help know if the recessed chamber is loaded are not. So you definitely need to pay attention to be sure hammer is down on an empty. Mine are new and consecutive but one has the witness holes milled into the cylinder and the other doesn't.  Go figure.

Your grips must be aftermarket or else they were laser-engraved.

As to your question about the percussion cylinders, I just know that before the guns came out there were stories in gun magazines about them that talked about having both cylinders.  But when Uberti actually built them a year later, it was taking them too much work to fit both cylinders, so they just sold most of them as conversions, although I think a few had the percussion cylinder.  Also, the frames were larger than the percussion frames so the percussion cylinders to fit that gun were also bigger and had to be kept separate from the standard cap'n'ball cylinders.  I was at Cimarron at the time and remember they had those cylinders in stock.  So people could order one and fit it themselves.  Now, that was in the beginning (don't recall what year but probably a dozen years ago?) and I don't know what may have happened since then as far as shipping any extra cylinders with the guns nor did I know that the newer conversions could not take the percussion cylinder.  I know the recoil shields in mine are screwed to the frame, but then you can't put a percussion cylinder back into any of the calibers except the .45.
