Howdy,
I seem to remember a thread for posting pictures of authentic old west holsters but can't find it.  I have a picture to post if someone can remember the thread.

Perhaps you are thinking of "Packing Iron " by Roddenberry thread
or the Fine work and photography of Wild Rose's  the late Chuck Burrows

I need to contact GoDaddy to see about getting Chuck's site back up. It's been too long.

That is a fine holster. There are a lot of years on it but it's a cool design. It may be one of the first examples of basket weave, which would probably put it in the late 1800's or early 1900's. It must have been quite a piece when it was new. Thanks for the photos.

Hey Will, if there isn't already a thread on this old leather, could we make this one a sticky?

Marshal Will Wingam

It's done. We'll sticky it for a while but also include it in out FAQ thread. If it slows down, we can un-sticky it and still be able to find it.

OK, pards. Post photos of your original holsters here.

I'll contribute to it with this one. Maker unknown. Most likely late 1800's or early 1900's. The upper curve has been cut down for better access to whatever pistol the owner had in it. I got this one at a match related 'flea market' for $5 one time.

Thanks for this. Do you have a closeup photo that shows how the maker treated the edges of the basket weave? Was there a border around it? Did he use a camo stamp to cover the edge of the weave?

Thanks for the photos of the border, pard. I like the way that was done without a cut line. Very classic looking. I'll have to play with that idea. That's a very cool holster.

This thread has been inactive for almost a year so I'm un-stickying it but it can still be found in the FAQ thread under 'Original Old West Photos'.
