Spencer serial # and half cock

Fred I joined and on that serial # you looked up you said your info shows the Co F of the 19th NY Cavalry getting Spencers in September 1864. I found a site that said they got them in April of 1864 replacing and getting rid of the unreliable Joslyn carbines. How close was the other serial #s you looked up to mine (up & down). Also my Spencer skips on half cock most the time. I think it's the Tumbler since the notch looks worn. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jim

The dates in Springfield Research Service are not necessarily when the arms were issued. In many cases they are when the unit was surveyed. Surveys happened all the time, some made it to the Archives, but most didn't.
