Ah yes !  the " big 22LR shortage... I managed to get that one azz backwards.  :-[

I happen on an UZI at good price, I thought would be fun, turned out it was finicky about the 22s it would digest.
With 25 rounds to a magazine it would burn through the High Velocity flavor bricks rather quickly.
So it sat during the shortage , once it was easing up, I picked several bricks.

Because it was so picky , liking mainly CCI High Velocity , I traded it off a for a 9MM PPS-43.

Figured ".what a deal " !

Now the 9MM is 3 times as costly as it was when I did the trade .  ::)  . was paying $13 at Bass pro or Academy Sports

Now its  $38 a box if they happen to have a delivery and you happen to be in there early enough....

when planets align...do the deal !

"THERE (sic) COMING TO TAKE YER GUNS!!  COMING TO TAKE MY GUNS!!  THE GOVERNMENT (ENTER FED, STATE, COUNTY, BOROUGH) IS DISARMING US!!"

We've heard that for decades, and to date, no one has come to take our guns.

I'm at the point believing the NRA uses that tired line as scare bait to get us to cough up donation money to line their pockets thereby keeping the uppity-ups in the organization in the high-off-the-hog lifestyle they've grown accustomed to.

Dolly Parton and Double Bubble mentioned in the same post... Coincidence, or Freudian slip?

Coffinmaker

:)  WOW   ;)

Didn't even think that!!  Double Bubble and Dolly inna same post.  Some interesting it is.  Must ponder . . . . .

River City  ::)  At risk of being ostrichsized, I must concur.  The NRA is a FRAUD.  As a second amendment defender, the NRA has done absolutely NOTHING but shake their Tin Can for at least a Decade.  Were'd da money go??  Suits, Big Trips, Automobiles, Bank Accounts.  Suck up our pockets for personal gains.  I wouldn't donate Dog Poo to em.

I have given the minimum amount of money needed to become a lifetime member and also to receive a certificate denoting me as an endowment member, and believe me, that amount was very minimal due to some promotions. I constantly get more stuff in the mail begging for more money. It all gets filed away in the corner file cabinet and eventually gets incinerated.

Dave T

I've been a Life Member of the NRA since 1973 and for many years I regularly donated money to them. The donations stopped the year they endorsed Senator Harry Reid (D) simply because he supported building a shooting range near his home town in NV. He was one of the most crooked politicians in the Senate at that time. Of course there's always someone new to challenge his record for corruption.

In the last few years the top ranks of the NRA act like politicians. Good grief!

I've been giving that some thought. It seems that the standard answer is "you should have stocked before the shortage hit".

Well guess what, if ALL of us had stocked up, then the shortage would have occurred MUCH, MUCH  sooner.

It's the folks that are buying several lifetimes of primers that have caused the shortage (IMHO).  Like the folks that panicked and gobbled up all the toilet paper they could find.  IMHO

Be careful with that broad brush. I have a good supply of primers that I bought over several years, three or four years ago. I don't think you can blame me or others like me for the shortage.

Went to the Cedar Rapids gun show today, very few primers at $20/100
1 brick of federal large pistol primers at $200, absolutely refused to pay.
The scalping sob is hearing a lot of comments. Hardly any powder, I was
looking for some 2F APP, none at all. So I paid 8 bucks to basically see a
few scalpers and lots of guns that you can't get ammo for.

"....few primers at $20/100 "  if I were out,  well maybe...ah! second though maybe not !

I'm seeing  $380 bucks on GB for a brick ...by my math  38 cents each  ::)
which is larceny  >:(

but floored by this guy's ad   https://www.gunbroker.com/item/891718735
Large Pistol Primer

These so called dealers are buying these primers at their regular prices
and then absolutely screwing their customers/fellow shooters. Supply
and demand, but this is fffing ridiculous

Sir,

I'm referring to folks that purchased LIFETIMEs of reloading components.  Notice the word LIFETIME?  I was NOT referring to those that planned ahead several years.

Personally, I got lucky at an estate sale and got quite a bunch for cheap, so I'll weather the storm OK.  One thing I like about my flintlocks is I've never yet run out of rocks.  Flint. chert, agate( which are plentiful enough around here) even taconite works OK ...

Remember those dealers and don't do business with them. Might even remind them of it too when you buy things from another vendor during the lean times that they need the business.

The old saying you can shear a sheep over and over but you can only skin him once.

I haven't been to a gun shop in over a year do to covid and other issues but my brother said the place we shop has primers from time to time and are selling at normal price but limiting customers to one sleeve of 100 per day so everybody has a chance to get at least some.
