What I find most satisfying is making things with tools that you also made.
You have that right. It really lets you express yourself in your work.

Good tip about putting the maker's mark at a slight angle. I'd noticed it never seemed straight . . .

Marshal Will Wingam

Yeah, it only has to be off 3 or 4 degrees to look straight when it's folded back and stitched.

On a side note, have you seen the photographs of Geronimo with a Dance Revolver?

Yes, I've seen those before. They're pretty cool photos. Thanks for posting them again. With only +-350 Dances ever made, finding a photo of someone recognizable with one is not common.

Hey Marshall, what flower stamp is that if you don't mind me asking? I like it and it looks different than any I have.

It's the larger one of the LT54 stamp from Steel Stamps, Inc. There's no rounding of the petals like the Barry King 12 Petal Flower stamp but it's less than half the cost. It also is a little crisper than the Barry King one because there is just the 2-dimensional line around the petals. The center is detailed like a seeder. I tried beveling the petals to see if it could be improved on but that just smashed them flat. For the border purposes, it's perfect.

For sure. I don't know that I have seen one in any other "famous" person photo. Could be overlooking someone but I sure can't remember seeing another famous person with one. Geronimo's stood out because I have studied him pretty heavily on several occasions.

Really swell Dance Replicant.  Really swell Leather.  I am not a Leather Worker, but I too have been described as 2 or 3 degrees "off"   ;D

The only other one I know who used a Dance was Bloody Bill Longley, the murderer. This photo may be of him but it doesn't really look like he's holding a Dance.

EDIT: Rube Burrows has clarified that this photo is not a photo of Langley. Thanks for that, Rube.

That photo is of Bloody Bill Anderson the Confederate Guerilla, not Longley. After being killed Bloody Bill Anderson's body was taken back to Richmond and photographed.

That revolver looks to have an octagonal barrel on it though I have read that there are some Dance revolvers that did not have round barrels.

Thanks for clarifying that, Rube. That pistol also looks to have a recoil shield.

Evidently there are three known Dances with octagonal barrels. One of those inspired my octagonal barreled one. That the one will get the next holster (this forum is about leather, after all  ;D )

Yeah, Its easy to get off topic.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on the holster.

Unfortunately, I am not talented to do such work.
An Austrian smith made two of them, one for a pard of mine and one for me.
These Dance Navies started life as the barrel/cylinder assembly of a C.O.M. made 1862 Griswold & Gunnison and the frame/grip assembly of a Uberti Colt 1851 Navy.

That's a fine looking Dance, there. The guy did a great job.
