Nice work, Rube! Those look good. That's a great color, too.

Been a bit since I last posted.  Thought I'd share something a bit special I did.

I like that , there just something special in a 1911 in western leather.

I'd like to know more about the 1911 too !

Now that is just plain classy. Looks great.

That really looks outstanding, Kid. Beautiful work. I like the nice even stamping pattern. The color compliments it nicely, too.

Agreed. The color is great.

OP, What color brown did you use on that one?

The color was achieved through a process instead of a bottle.

Start with Chestnut colored veg tan leather (Wicket & Craig)
After wet molding and the grain is just slightly damp, burnish with sheep's wool to a gloss.
Oil with a neutral oil (neatsfoot)
Use Fiebings Antique Stain gel finish (medium brown) liberally. Make sure you get the stain in the stamp impressions.
With a wet (wetter than damp) paper towel, wipe all the excess stain off of the piece until the towel doesn't remove any more stain.
(might take a couple paper towels)
I then use Resolene as a top finish but use whatever floats your boat at this point.

Make sure to give a little time between the applications of liquids.

The gel antique stain really highlights any stamping patterns you use. (it will also reveal any sloppy stamping....lol)

Hope this explains my process.

Thanks for outlining what you did. That is a very nice finish.

Excellent. I always enjoy seeing/reading how other's do their process.

Well, there ya go! Looks good, pard. Nice work. I like those Dodge City holsters. I make single layer belts for my own use because, at least for me, they're more comfortable.

Personal one for myself and my 72 Open Tops. Very comfortable but will make a thicker belt soon.

Lots of good looking rigs. I'm just starting into this, have my guns, and now its time to try to find leather. I don't have any holster makers in my area (Middle Tennessee) that have anything to look at, and the online leather makers do a terrible job of showing any detail, quality, or specifics.
