Hopefully 1911 holsters are not minded here since some shoot Wild Bunch.

Just finished up this 1911 holster. I wanted to try a floral carving again. This one is much more detailed than the first one I did but there is much much room for improvement. I still don't have quite all the tools I need when I get down to the carvings. Either that or I just need to figure out how to use them better.

I like the end result and know I can improve upon it also so that is a good thing in my book. The bevel I really need to practice and get better with. It really stumps me.

Anyways, here it is.

Yep, we like Wild Bunch leather. That's a fine holster design. Looks good. It's almost like a Frazier and would be very close if you put a skirt behind it.

As to the bevel, just remember that it's purpose is to make one detail look like it's in front of another. Here's a good pictorial guide for that. Compare step 4 to step 5 where the bevel was used.

Thanks for the comments and the link. I will look up a Frazier holster and see what it looks like. I have been enjoying learning about the different styles and patterns.

I have really taken a liking to the Brill holster but have not tried it yet. I have been saving photos and links to better understand it's construction method.

Glad to help. Just about everyone has that same question about the bevel. It's about the hardest one to figure out.

Here's what a Frazier looks like. I scanned this from Packing Iron. In fact, that's the basic design I chose for my own WB holster (minus all the spots and conchos).

The Brill is another classic. I haven't made one yet but will get to it one of these days myself.

Oh yeah, I remember seeing that one in the Packing Iron book. I just ordered Holstory which I believe will have a good bit of Brill information in it.

Not familiar with Holstory. I'll go look it up. I look forward to seeing what you do with it. I like the design.

It's an expensive book but looks to be a very quality book.

Nice job the 1911 Holster. Your carving looks good.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself
