I was tempted, till i read where he only shot it single shot. Whats wrong with it that he only shoots single shot? That is the 2nd red flag. 1st being its a Chappy. I'm no smith or machinist, so I'm going to pass. Thought I'd bring this here for you handier guys.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Dirty Dick

When I shoot my Winchester '86 .45-70 off the bench it is always loaded single shot. I wouldn't let that deter you.  ;D

An '86 and a '76 are two different animals altogether.  A Chaparral '76 is a horror story of historical proportions.  I worked on a number of them (Chaparral).  They were absolute KRAP!!  The replacement parts were worse than the OEM parts, none of which fit/worked.  Wouldn't own one onna bet.

We (CAS City) had a contributor whom related his tail of woe making the one he was stuck with work.  The final cost was frightening and he only cited the cost of materials.  No labor.  The guns I worked on ran well beyond the original purchase price to make run.  Not run well.  Just run at all.

Chaparral are to be avoided like the PLAGUE!!

Coffin ,, you are truly right ,, that being said I " like working on the little " buggers " , finishing a 45-60 as we converse . BUT , when finished they shoot to POA , ( great barrels ) and feed slick  ( it's not about the money or the time ) and as said many times " Quality Control SUCKED ".
I have 2, my 40-60 has what many call a " UBERTI " chamber .. adjusted the dies ( LEE 3 die set ), use 45-70 brass , all of this matters only to "ME " , would I buy another one ,,,, if it's dirt cheap ,, many ::) ( but not to many ) actually worked right out of the box ,, soooo roll the dice see what comes up ,,, then PM me ( lol ). Coffin , you & Major & Prof. M. are a inspiration to me " stay true ".

The Chaparral I had was pathetic for shooting, the rifling grooves where just barely .002" deep...more like faint scratches. Miserable internal fitting of parts too. Beware!

What is the Uberti chamber in the 40/60? And in a Chappy? I thought the Uberti chamber was for the 45/75? That is what mine is.
