Greetings, I have Spencer Model 1860 Carbine with serial number 18513 and was wondering if there was any information about its issuance. Thank you

AFTER THE "LOOKUP" - Thank you so much! It was my understanding that the rifle had been in my great Uncle's family since the War and it makes a lot sense now as to how they came into possession of it. The 11th Michigan Volunteer Calvary fought a number of battles (and defeats) near my home in Southwest Virginia.

The rifle also has a "K" carved into the side of the stock, which this new information explains. My family fought for the confederacy and it was always assumed that it was a battlefield pickup and this most likely confirms it. Thank you again. I will post pictures on the forum as soon as I can, most likely later this week.

Hi Coleman,

Finally!

I founded the Spencer Shooting Society (SSS) back in 2005, and have been the sole Moderator ever since.  During these 15+ years I have only come across 9 exact Spencer serial #s.  Your Spencer Carbine 18513 is #10.  Your Spencer Carbine serial # 18513 WAS ISSUED to Company K, 11th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry on August 17, 1864, as noted in my SRS Research Books.

It would be great if you would post photos of your Spencer on the SSS Forum.

I will add your username/alias to our membership list.

Thank you for joining SSS and for contacting me.
