I wish there was an NCOWS posse in Arizona!

I don't know how many other folks here live in the A.T. but I wish we had an NCOWS posse in central Arizona. I was a member of NCOWS back in Indiana but last time I checked there wasn't a posse here.

The NCOWS Deputy Marshall spent a chunk of last winter in Tombstone.  I have asked him to contact you regarding the possibility of starting an Arizona Posse.

If there had been an NCOWS Posse in AZ back in 1995 I wouldn't have gotten out of CAS shooting. Well, yea I would have (lol). I'd have turned into a NCOWS shooter. (smile)

Paako, I'm too old and busted up to play but I'd probably join just to support an AZ Posse.

I was in Tombstone for 2 months last winter and handed out several membership brochures
Seemed several people were interested in our group, but I don't know if anyone has joined.
If possible I hope to back in Jan. & Feb. What better place for some real historical shooting
than Tombstone. One Sat. I was dressed in my beat up clothes (historical from head to toe)
carrying my 138 year old 73 Winchester and Colt, and I'm sure I possed for 40 pictures on
1 lap of Allen street. So It's really cool having the the right look (NCOWS) and adding so much
to the town.

I live in Prescott which is five-hour drive from Tombstone on a good day (COVID 19 has really knocked down traffic) so attending anything other than a state match probably wouldn't happen as I still work.
That being said, Prescott is steeped in Old West history and there is a "Old West" group that lounges around the Palace Saloon every weekend. They pose for pictures with the tourists and socialize. There is a SASS club here and another near Sedona. Every spring they have the SASS Winter Range shoot at the Ben Avery Range on the northern edge of Phoenix. There is also Cowtown which is a CAS club not far from Winter Range. So, I suspect there would be many in the Prescott area interested in NCOWS and many more in Phoenix interested.
I just moved out here in December and have not yet been to a SASS match because of kidney issues. I am now healed up so plan on starting soon. (I am a SASS member.)

I don't consider myself as a leader but I do make a good right-hand man, and I am a writer and started writing for Guns magazine not long ago.
I guess I could post flyer in local gun shops with an insert saying to contact me if they are interested in starting a posse.

Just as a point of history, the Earps and Doc Holiday started here in Prescott before heading to Tombstone. After the OK Corral event, Virgil Earp moved back to the Kirkland area just south of Prescott for awhile.

Paako, I am sending you a stack of brochures today. If you get some interest, I plan on
coming down this Jan. and Feb. (covid Permitting). If you could get a range, we could put
on a introductory NCOWS match, to let the people see the difference.I have a 5 stage match
written about events that happened in Tombstone (no OK corral). I could come up the day
ahead and set targets, probably move them back. One stage has a pocket pistol, and there are
no 10,10,4. This is not SASS bashing, but I think there are people interested in history, dressing
historically correct, shooting original style guns (usually a lot of black powder),  celebrating
the old west, and having a good time doing it with like minded friends.

Keep in mind we are a volunteer organization, and myself and our exec comm., will be
more than helpful and happy to hopefully see a posse come together. You definitely
have the  history and the population, that if the word gets out it should work. I was
disappointed in Tombstone that hardly any one had heard of NCOWS, when the two
should be a perfect fit

I'm friends with a pard on facebook that lives in Arizona who has shown interest in starting an NCOWS posse. his name is Mike Mills. I'm also thinking a past member of Scarlet Mask Vigilance Society moved out to AZ. Maybe Bushwhacker could give more info.
I'd like to se a posse formed in the state, that would give Sierra Sue and myself a reason to travel back out there.

I would like very much to be part of a NCOWS posse in AZ. I was a member some years back, got close to being able to posse with a California group, but it did not happen. Thinking about joining again. I do not care for the direction SASS has gone.

If New York is able to form a posse, Arizona should be able to.   ;D  Out here we have to deal with longer distances so I understand.  It would be great if you could start something.

I think most are locked into SASS and the "speed". Seems like a "hurry up and leave" attitude.  ???

I understand the speed and hurry up and leave.  I am trying to get something going here in the TX panhandle.  I have 6 NCOWS members one of which is my wife who cannot shoot anymore.  I think most of the SASS folks that would be interested in NCOWS left years ago.  I am real close to NM but I am too far away for Prof. Marvel and Oregon Bill.

This thread started in August of 2020 and now it's about to be April of 2023.  Kind of sad nothing has happened toward there being an AZ Posse.

And has been read 1425 times, I guess just not by the right people. With the history
in A.T. it seems that NCOWS would be the perfect fit. Lots of reenactors in Tombstone
and Goldfield, just that I know of, it seems there would be interest in a historical posse.
My trouble is I'm over 1500 miles from Tombstone and more from Prescott.

Sad thing is, they used to do lunches and take breaks, now they just want to hurry up and shoot to get out of there because they have to "reprimer the jeep" or something else. Just 1 day a month I would commit to a full day shoot.

I feel your pain OP.  The FL posse went away and now the nearest one is in North by God AL.  I would have to drive up Saturday for a Sunday shoot, then drive home Monday.  With inflation, I can't afford the hotel, food, gas and ammo.
