I have a c96 that pierces primers.  I have cut about 3/16" off the hammer spring and it now punches the primer deeply.  Is shortening the firing pin recommended?  I am reluctant to
lighten the hammer spring since this affects the recoil of the bolt on the c96.  BTW  it is a 7,65mm converted to 9mm.

Instead of start cutting springs. You should have the headspace checked instead.

By the way. Reducing any spring power, and especially the main spring, in a C96 is just an invitation for disaster.

Edit. I will stress this point. If you do not know how the lock time works on a specific locked breech semi auto you should leave it for a competent gunsmith.

Thanks, that is good advice.

Get a replacement Wolff spring and see how that works.

Mr. Fanning,
Are you by chance using primers that are considered soft?  (FEDERAL primers springs to mind...)
If so, you could try changing to a different brand and see if that helps...

I should have mentioned that the c96 is a 30 cal that has been sleeved to 9MM.  After lightening the hammer spring it punches the primers deeply without piercing them.
I has about .020 In of head space which I see no way to correct.  It shoots correctly with my reduced loads and I have ordered a new recoil spring from Tom Heller for 30 cals that
have been converted to 9mm.  I am using Winchester primers.
Thanks for all the responses
