Very bluntly, if some folks don't like the way my friend Marshall Halloway takes care of his board, thats fine.  Nobody is being held hostage, t'aint hard to delete an account and never come back.

You say somethin', Del?  Sorry.  Wasn't payin' attention.  Heh, heh...

Much goes on in individuals' lives.  Much we don't know.  Much away from these telygrafs.

In light of that, it's a damned shame the Halloways have to take the time to change the diapers of the few.

QuoteAnd of course the real story here is that the mod was removed the SMF forum April 12, 2005, and to boot, it never could work with any version of SMF software past 1.0 RC1, so it would not have been usable here since October 10, 2004, when 1.0 RC2 was released.

Uh, no.  The 'real story' is that the 'instant message spyer' mod is available for the asking according to the thread I linked to.  And with a little bit of scripting it will work with this version of the software, if it doesn't already.  (Heck, if you're handy with scripts you can write an instant message spyer yourself.) Besides, who needs the mod at all when the database can just be gone through?  Or lacking that just log into the particular users account and read their PM's that way, as is also suggested on the 'instant message spyer' thread.  In other words, there are myriad ways to access PM's.

Anyways, I've said my piece.  Read it again...I'm not 'accusing' anyone.  What you folks do with the information is entirely up to you.

Hedley Lamarr

Wrong.
Read more carefully.
QuoteSince I've been getting a lot of IMs wanting this mod let me answer them all:

No.

I removed the mod and I will not be handing it out.  As I stated before if I do re-release it the entire mod will be redone and in a completly different format.

Jiminy, I believe you have tested my patience and questioned my integrity and in general spread your negative input long enough.

You make it clear to anyone that will listen that you are not considering my word to be the truth. I am sorry that you have so much distrust of me and the system that you are in fact using every day.

When we are attacked through the forum or in a negative email campaign as in this case about our PM system, all I can do is to make the honest statement that I have made. You and several others seem to take advantage of the luxury of making accusations or assumptions without showing any proof of either. I don't have that luxury.

All I have is my word and that is all the proof I can offer.

And the Marshal's word is good enough for me. He has no axe to grind. Iffen you don't like things around here then do yourselves a favor and leave....I assure you that you will NOT be missed.

Words of wisdom escape me.

For us all can have a Merry Christmas would be my wish.

It all sure does seem trite.

I can't take any sides because I don't know what all happened, it didn't happen to me, so I can never know, & got too much going on in my real world to worry about it.

I like CAS, I like the Old West, and liket many great cowfolk who built our great nation, I have interests that aren't CAS related & sometimes I'd like a social compass reading from my CAS buds. Here in Illinois, whose politics are largely anti-gun, and being that I'm new to the sport & been out of the shooting "loop" for all my streams to have dried up, most of the "pards" I've had a chance to find have been on this confounded machine. So I'm kind of sorry I missed out on the goings on that caused all the fuss. (Gosh, that sounds mercenary, but I really REALLY don't mean for it too) I'm also kind of glad I missed it, 'cause I might just have gotten caught up myself, & as someone so eloquently pointed out, the internet ain't private, so privacy shouldn't be expected. Even if it's granted as the Marshal has granted it to this forum.

I can't believe that this isn't being blown way out of proportion, it has to be. This cannot be this big a deal. There's no possible gain for anybody that I can see, & the first thing you look for in any investigation is motive. Where's the motive to "spy" on someone's cyber-stuff? I can maybe understand if there were some profit to be had.

I guess I have to believe that the Marshal just wants to have content in town that is pertenant to the sport, and let other more "controvercial" topics for the myriad other boards that are out ther for that. There's room on the range for all sorts of sites, and this one is invaluable for it's wealth of CAS related information and collected experience among it's gifted ranks (that's all y'all, pards).

Ain't it a man's right to choose what goes out wearin' his brand?

Badlands will survive, IBS will too, anybody else that walks away from the trouble will be fine too.

I like it here in CAS city, y'all are good folks (for all I know ;)). If I want to talk with cowboys about non-CAS things I'll find a place to do that, it's a big range, I'd like to think I can cover it all . . . (I"m going to need broadband)

Thanks again Marshal for all the work you do on CAS City. Anybody that knows what's involved here that don't appreciate you ain't worth words.

I'll never speak on the matter again.

Well I've meet the Marshal and Marshal'ette and although we only spent a few short days together I would trust the Marshal with anything I have.  As far as I'm concerned his word is beter than gold cause the value of his word will not fluctuate like the value of gold.  Marshal'ette, I love ya darlin, I've been sittin on my hands wanting to sound off so bad I could hardly stand it.  Thank you for saying so much of what I have wanted to say for so long.  For you discontents, this is The United States of America which I served for 22 years so that you have the freedom to chose.  If you don't love it, leave it.  Same goes for CAS City, if ya don't like it here, we don't want ya here, exercise your freedom of choice and haul ass.

Why would any one what to be reading PM's posted on this board? For that matter, why would anyone be using this area for info that is that sensitive.

If you are that worried that someone mite put in the time to go though  all that is post on this site, then you mite what to:
Stop using the internet all together
Cancel your cell phone.
Your land line phone also.
Satellite and cable TV
Do not seen anything by mail
Or use any others like  UPS, FED X and so on
Stop using your credit cards, and other banking services.
Sell your house and move to NV, so you can kept watch over aria 51.
After moving be sure to have your new house lined with lead.
In you spare time you can find the proof that JFK's murder was a joint operation of the CIA and KGB.

OR AS BEEN SAID MANY TIMES OVER IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT HERE GET OUT, AND STAY OUT!!!!!

I've had the pleasure of hanging out with Marshall & Marshal'ette.  I've been around and had dealings with the Marshall both here and between CAS borads.

I haven't met JC F2F, but I am very familiar with the posts on various boards and difficulties therein.

The Marshal is a real cowboy.
Honest, kind, generous and forgiving.

Some folks will try and take advantage of that.

M & M -- if you need a posse, count me in! Merry Christmas to you both  :)

Hey all,

I have read this thread with interest. Like others on this board I make my living in computer technology. As Director of Teaching & Learning with Technology at the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy I deal with all sort of issues as to web pages, email, etc. For me the problem here is not if something could be done ( yes one can "crack" most any system; which btw is illegal), but, rather two main questions. Who wants to read the messages in the first place, and with the Marshal's track record, why would anyone think he would sit around and work on ways to read anyone's messages?

First, I have not met the Marshal but, I like his tone and efforts; this is a fun and informative forum. Second, I read Badland's posts and there are many "issues" in most of his. I don't care that one needs to be careful what one writes when on the net; which one does. That is not the issue. We either trust the Marshal or saddle up and get out of town! I am not one one to go over the edge, but, Cricket it's time to head out to the line-shack for the winter, and if you see Badlands there enjoy the conversation...nuff said.

Merry Christmas all, and fogive my strong comments.

Gold Canyon Kid

Based on what he has posted here and on other boards (where he was also disiplined), I would not believe anything emailed from Badlands Walker.  Marshall, you got a great site here, keep up the good work.  Just ignore or better yet just squash pesky cheerping critters like crickets.

Tricky Trina

Of all the stupidest things - my Lord! If you only knew how much of your really personal information is available through conventional means, much less online, you'd probably die! Like anyone gives a crap about some personal PMs from a malcontent!! If anyone truly believes that you have privacy over the WORLD WIDE WEB, I have a bridge for sale....... Marshal and Marshal'ette have one more in their posse.... Like MM said, I did my twenty - if ya don't like what ya got, GIT!
Merry Christmas to everyone and may God bless the Marshal and Marshal'ette for devoting their precious personal time to this board!

I'm new to this thread and don't know what caused it.

However, to use a SASS phrase, it just doesn't seem to be in the "Cowboy Way."  (And yes, I'm talking 'bout the "way"as presented by Hoppy, Gene, Roy and the Lone Ranger.)

I've never had the pleasure of meeting the Marshal or his lovely wife, Marshal'ette.  I DO think that what Hedley mentions is important:  if it goes out on the "net" (or cell phone, or cordless phone, or any number of other means of modern communication) it isn't truly private.  That said, I am also SURE that the Halloways have BETTER things to do than spy on us!!!!!

I enjoy my time on CAS City, The Frontier Spot, The Open Range, and yes, even the SASS Wire ... and I appreciate all the hard work from the folks who make these forums possible!!

Merry Christmas to all and God Bless.  I hope you have a great 2006!

Trinity reads the post.  Thinks.  Then prints the post out, retrieves it, wads it up into a tight ball and throws it into Cricket's face.

I have been away for the past couple days and it seems that I have missed something.  What I can say from experience is that whatever Badlands says is deserves a second guess.  He is (was) definitely not completely on his rocker.

Marshal, chalk me up as another one on your side.  Quite frankly, I have read some of Badland's MULTITUDE of posts and became quite tired of him very early on.  Good riddence to him... for the second time.  Or was it third?

Merry Christmas!!!
