Howdy Pards,

I just finished loading up 150 rounds of 45-70 with my DD-45-70 500 semi spitzer bullets.  I found, accidentally, that my bullet lube, DD Pearl Lube II, makes a great case lube.  I got some on my fingers and smeared some on the brass and WOW!  It slicked thru the sizing die like snot on a door knob.  I'm done buying commercial case lube.  Yes, I did have to wipe off the loaded rounds cuz I don't like my rounds to have any lube on them when I shoot.  So, for those of you that have purchased PL-II, give it a try.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

What is it and where do I buy it, please?

Couple of months ago while reloading 38-40's I happened to have a rag nearby lightly saturated with neatsfoot oil, so I wiped the cases with that. This oil is very thin and I had none of the "lube creases" you occasionally get on such thin cases if you go a little too heavy on the lube. When finished, I didn't bother to wipe the cartridges down as there was next to no oil on them. I got into the habit of wiping the cases with a dry rag when finished loading as a couple of the places I Cowboy shoot have sandy soil and I've dropped a few at the loading bench over the years.

Well Dick, I tried some of your PL-II as a case lube. Was sizing up some 250 Savage cases. It does work, but IMO is a PITA to use. I've used some lube from Kens Gun shop called KGS that I bought years ago in a 2 oz bottle. Excellent lube, sizes the cases with no problem, greased lighting, and a little goes a looooong way. but as in most cases needs to be wiped off. I use a rag and denatured alcohol. What I didn't like about using the PL-II is that it takes extra time to rub a stick of the PL with thumb and forefinger and then rub each case. With the KGS as with other lubes, I can apply a small amount to a case lube pad, smear it around, and then lube 10 cases at a time with a gentle roll. I tired some of Redding's Imperial Wax size lube not long ago, but it needs to be applied as with your PL-II and that stuff is a pain to clean off of the brass. Don't like lubed brass after its loaded. Nope, PL-II is a great and wonderful bullet lube and I'll continue to use it for that, which reminds me I need to reorder some PL-II one of these days, not out yet, but don't want to be either.

PL-II was never developed for a case lube, but it works and I had some handy on my loading bench.  As far as wiping back the loaded ammo, I do that by the box instead of one at a time.  I also don't like shooting lubed ammo because it tends to stretch the brass when fired and can lead to case separation.  Dry clean brass is the way to go.

Understand what yer saying Dick. Great bullet lube, will work as a case lube. Just that I don't like the timely time it takes to apply. Nor do I shoot lubed ammo, like em dry also. Not sure what you mean by "I do that by the box instead of one at a time"! If you are indicating you don't wipe the brass down until you get everything lubed, that's how I do it also, but do it one case at a time. Tried flushing some once in solvent, worked for the first few, but by the time I did the last few, the solution was so saturated with the lube, after they dried, they were still 'lubey'! One at a time, PITA, but needed.

No CC,

I take the whole box to the table but I still have to wipe 'em with a clean dry rag one at a time regardless of the case lube I use.  FWIW, even my carbide dies benefit from lubed brass but a wipe is still needed after loading.

::)  Nah.  None of the Above  ::)

I quit using wipe on case lube some Lustrum(s) ago.  Onlyist case lube I use is Dillon Spray-On.  Well, once in a while if I allow myself to run out, I'll use some One Shot.  On top of which, I don't even bother to wipe the light residue off the cases before I run 'em thru the gun.  Waste of time with spray lube.

Maybe I'm ignoranat as to what 'Dillon Spray-On" is Coffeemaker, but if the only thing you use is 'Dillon Spray-On', which I assume is a 'spray on lube, I don't understand your quote where you advise that "Waste of time with spray lube"!  ??? ???

I've never used any of the spray lube's, I assume of all the high-fives I've read of reloaders using sprays it must work good/effective. I've always thought that when you have a tray of brass sitting on the bench and you unleash the aerosol spray lube upon the brass, you always waste a portion all over the plastic brass tray or whatever, ie. you waste a lot of spray and from what I've seen of it, it ain't cheap. I've been using the same $3 bottle of lube for the last ? years, think I'll stick with it.

Simple error in semantics or context if you will.  With a light spritz of spray lube "it's a waste of time to bother wiping it off."

No, I don't spritz the cases onna "tray" of any sort.  I drop one or two hundred cases inna shoe box, give em a light spritz then shake 'em around to spread the lube.

That must have been a really big bottle of lube for just three bucks.  Either that or you actually don't reload much.   ::)

Ah Ha! Dem' simple errors do happen  ;D!  Your method makes more sense CF. I've seen video's and pictures of guys with a tray full of brass and a can of Hot Shot or whatever spraying down the brass. Makes for more sales for the manufacturer. Does waste lube spray. I tried some Lee case lube once, a white paste that is water soluble, worked, but didn't care for it. I use the Lee to lube the inside of the case mouths applying with a cotton swab before the deprime/size procedure so the ball runs in and out of the neck smoothly. I reload a lot, all my pistol/revolver reloading is done with carbide dies (no lubing). I reload eight rifle (bottleneck) cartridges, some that I reload more than others, but the 2oz bottle I mentioned goes along ways (a little dab will do ya-like Brylcreem), but I have used other similar types over the years. I do though do more shooting with pistol/revolver (including rifles that use straight wall revolver rds) than I do with the bottle neck rifle cartridges. Just recently loaded up some 30/06 fodder and in the process of some 250 and 300 Savage (shooting in Savage 99's and Remington 81's.

Horror of Horror's!! I was looking at that bottle of case lube I bought some time back (KGS) from Kens Gun Shop out of Minnesota and observed that there isn't a whole lot left. Went online and it appears Kens Gun Shop is no longer in business, soooooooo--I guess when what is left of KGS lube is used, I'll be looking for something different.  :'(

Oh NO Mr. Bill  :o   I absolutely hate it when that happens.  Scarf up a nice shoe box wid a hinged lid, then send of to DILLON fer a bottle or two of their spray lube.  Really good stuff.

Drop a pile of cases inna shoe box, spritz in some lube, close da box, shake like crazy couple seconds, run 'em thru da press.  PRESTO!!
