Im brand new to SSS.  Will be receiving my first Spencer from 1863? next week .It is a carbine, sn 4585 and am anxious to start search for its origins. It is a family heirloom of a good friend. lookin forward to help of SSS members.

Are you sure it's a carbine . . . on my research papers, serial #s that low were given to Spencer rifles.  I have a serial # 4583 that was assigned to a rifle.  Need photos of your carbine???
