Short Rifles

I'm curious to see your short rifles. Are they a common thing in Uberti's or a special order?

When the Uberti '76 first came out, Cimarron was sending some of them to a 'smith to shorten to 22". They did that for a while, so there are a few of them out there.

I visited Texas Jacks in Fredericksburg, Tx and got to handle one of the Crossfire carbines. In the past I had only handled one of the full 28 inch full length rifles and was pleasantly surprised at what a difference the 22 inch barrel made in ease of handling. It is now on my bucket list!!

Not just 22" but round, that makes a difference, too!

Old thread now. With no responses I'd have to wonder just how many 22" guns Cimarron made. I've only seen the one. Heard about the 22" guns but have yet to see another one. Still haven't. I have a 22" that Cimarron cut down. It is a 45-75. Done some work to it since but would like to rebarrel it with a 1/2 round and make it a button mag. As mentioned the true carbine, round barrel guns, are a very light gun by comparison even with the full stock. . Likely change mine out to 45-60 if I change barrels. Been 6 years just haven't got around to it yet.

Who makes barrels for Uberti here in the states. I often think of rebarreling mine to a normal 45-75.

I have an 86 Chiappa 26"and my Uberti 76 (28") - both a neat ten pounds - but the 86 shorter by four and a half inches is much easier for me to hold to shoot offhand (the 76 levers heaps slicker and quicker tho) ------full magazine with its extra rounds adds more weight to the 76 too - when I turn 80 (if I havent took up weightlifting) the 76 might get a haircut back to 24 inch barrel.
